Senior Courtiers 'Were Spitting Out Their Morning Tea' When They Learned Of Meghan Markle's 'Trashy' NYC Baby Shower, Expert Claims
It's safe to say Meghan Markle's 2019 baby shower did not go over well with the Palace.
“They walked in through the front entrance carrying these enormous bags from the most expensive shops in New York,” royal expert Ingrid Seward said in Channel 4's documentary A Very Royal Baby: From Cradle to Crown, referring to Meghan's "trashy" party, which took place at the Mark Hotel in New York City. “Crowds gathered because they were all celebrities, there was Gayle King from CBS, Serena Williams and Amal Clooney.”
“I remember speaking to a palace aide at the time who rolled their eyes, they were horrified that something so common was happening within the House of Windsor,” author Omid Scobie, who wrote the biography Finding Freedom, shared. “We had never seen someone throw this very lavish affair to celebrate the impending arrival of a baby.”
At the time, there were reports swirling that some of the royals were less than thrilled with the soiree.
“It’s fair to say that the optics of the somewhat flashy shower did not go down well with certain individuals at the palace," Scobie said.
He added, “While the trip had been a hit with Meghan, senior courtiers back in the UK were spitting out their morning tea when they saw her lavish baby shower thrown by friends turn into a media circus with what looked like carefully stage-managed paparazzi walks of the duchess in big black sunglasses from her hotel to her car and a laundry list of insider party details reported by US press.”
This time around, Meghan — who is pregnant with baby No. 2 — is planning "a massive celebration" with her A-list pals, including Oprah Winfrey, King, Tyler Perry and more.
However, Prince Harry wants his wife to keep the bash quiet.
"Meghan and Harry don’t lock horns much, but they struggled to get on the same page over their little girl’s baby shower," a source spilled to WHO.
"Meghan argued that she deserved a party," the source claimed. "They’ve been through hell and back escaping England with [son] Archie and she’s starting to feel very settled with a good core group of girlfriends with kids around her."
After the tiff, Meghan reportedly "did agree with Harry though that the details of her event shouldn’t get out," the source said. "She figured a private but luxurious shower with just her mum and a few close friends who’ve been in her isolation bubble, in the backyard of their house with a few animals for the kids to play with, could be just what the doctor ordered."
