Grandmother-to-be Sarah Ferguson is counting down the days until her daughter, Princess Eugenie, 30, gives birth to her and her husband Jack Brooksbank's first child!

It will be the Duchess of York's first grandchild, and since she relished her role as a mother to Eugenie and her older sister Beatrice, 32, Ferguson thinks her own daughter will feel the exact same way.

"Having not had my own mother around, I’ve always been determined to be a very present mother with my children, and I know Eugenie will be the same with hers," she revealed in a new interview. "She is incredibly empathetic and will be a great mother. She is a very strong and determined person."

"I have always been so close to my girls and it is such a joy to see them embarking on this next phase of their lives," Ferguson gushed in September when the royals announced their baby news. "We call ourselves the tripod and it’s a real honor to see them grow."

Ferguson is confident that she'll be a "fantastic" grandmother, and now that she's a children's book author, she's eager to have "story time" with the little one. Her latest work is titled The Adventures of Charlie, Blue and Larry the Lamp Post.

"This book will be dedicated to my first grandchild," she shared. "I am bringing out one children’s book a month for the next 12 months to create a lovely library for my grandchildren ... I feel like the luckiest person ever when I can bring a smile to a child’s face."

Ferguson revealed that one of the characters in her line of children's books, Genie Gems, was actually inspired by Eugenie. "She's superbly kind and she’s very organized, which is very like my daughter," she explained, adding that she's "always coming to the rescue."

She also proudly stated that Eugenie is "always looking for the truth in all she does. Her work for the Anti-Slavery Collective is a commitment she steadfastly campaigns for, to give everyone the chance to have a voice."

Ferguson spoke to Us Weekly about the exciting time for the family.
