Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have grabbed headlines since news of their romance broke in 2017. Their controversial life together has been the subject of numerous books. One such work, written by royal author Tom Bower, claims that Markle was ‘abrasive’ toward her staff. Bower, in his biography, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, alleged that Markle once ‘threw a cup of tea’ in the air out of her anger at Harry.
Markle has consistently been accused of being a bully, hence royal author Bower's account comes as no surprise. The expert revealed that the incident involved the Sussexes' visit to Sydney, Australia. As reported by OK! magazine, he penned, “Meghan was allegedly abrasive towards her four female staff and even towards the local British diplomats.”
Bower isn't the first author to accuse Markle of belittling her aides. A scathing report by The Hollywood Reporter also shed light on her supposed horrid attitude towards her employees. A source told the outlet, “She belittles people, she doesn’t take advice. They’re both poor decision-makers…Harry is a very, very charming person—no airs at all—but he’s very much an enabler.” According to the outlet, her reported tantrums and angry 5 a.m. emails once earned her the moniker ‘Duchess Difficult’ from her staff. As per Tatler, in 2018, Markle's treatment of two royal aides led Kensington Palace to launch an investigation into alleged ‘bullying behaviour’. Her team, however, dismissed the allegations as the ‘latest attack on her character.’
Bower’s work also sheds light on Markle’s alleged obsession with reading negative comments about her. She was once reportedly pissed when Harry decided to do the same. Bower wrote, “According to one report, Meghan allegedly threw a cup of tea into the air. Her anger may have been partly fuelled by Harry. Every night, he trawled social media, searching for snide comments on the internet. Every morning, he and Meghan turned on their phones to surf the internet.” As reported by The Mirror, the author further added that the late Queen was relieved that Markle couldn't make it to Prince Philip's funeral. He claimed that the monarch allegedly sighed, "'Thank goodness.'”
Speaking of the Queen, the couple also seemed to irritate her during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. Bower asserted that Harry and Markle demanded to appear with the Queen on Buckingham Palace's balcony. He wrote, “Festering was their (Harry's and Meghan's) fury that the palace had refused all of their demands for a prominent role at the Jubilee. In Meghan's view, those optics were unsatisfactory, partly because her value to Netflix was to stand near the Queen.” The couple only made one brief public appearance at St Paul's Cathedral that weekend.
