King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla’s relationship came at the cost of his marriage to Princess Diana. Their notorious affair led to acrimonious divorces from their respective spouses. Commenting on their state of affairs, royal author Tom Bower revealed that Camilla once dismissively referred to the late Princess as ‘a mad cow.’

Diana and Charles married on 29 July 1981, when she was just 20, while he was 32. However, it was not the age gap that caused their divorce, but rather his elaborate affair with long-time flame Camilla Parker Bowles. Bower, in his book Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, claimed that Camilla had many cruel nicknames for Diana. As per the Daily Mail, he said, “Her friends, at least, were never in any doubt about what Camilla thought of her lover's young wife. In the early days of the marriage, she would dismissively call the Princess 'a mouse.' Later, she would refer to her as 'that mad cow.'" Brower revealed that she gave her the cruel moniker because Diana was "working her way through the lifeguards," referring to the late Princess's own affairs. Camilla reportedly believed Diana had no right to complain when she herself was complicit.

Additionally, Bower spilled that Charles and Camilla hired PR stud Mark Bolland to rehabilitate her public perception. Bower penned, “The first hurdle, they agreed, was to demythologise Diana by portraying her as a manipulative hysteric…Since Diana's death, [journalist] Penny Junor had recast her book to portray the Princess as an unbalanced and unfaithful wife, suffering from borderline personality disorder.” A confrontation between the two ladies reportedly took place in 1989 at a private birthday dinner. Camilla attended with her then-husband Andrew Parker Bowles, while Diana 'arrived unexpectedly.’ Bower wrote, "While the rest of the room fell suddenly silent, [Diana] challenged Camilla to leave Charles alone." He added that Camilla took the Princess to task for 'unacceptable behaviour in a private house.'

Unsurprisingly, the late Princess Diana also had a cruel nickname for her husband’s lover. Royal expert and biographer Christopher Anderson told Fox News Digital, “Diana called Camilla 'the Rottweiler,' and Camilla's nickname for Diana was 'Barbie.’” Diana's friend Simon Simmons explained that she dubbed Camilla so because once she sunk 'her teeth into someone,' Camilla never 'let go'.

Diana was deeply hurt by the bitter dissolution of their marriage. She made her feelings very clear in her infamous Panorama interview with BBC’s Martin Bashir. In the 1995 interview, Diana infamously said, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” She also claimed that there was a lack of support from the royal family as she battled an eating disorder and suicidal thoughts. The bombshell interview was the last straw for Queen Elizabeth II, who spoke to the Church and reportedly wrote a letter to the couple asking them to divorce immediately.
