The moment was pure innocence, with Diana radiating warmth and pride. Fans were quick to react, flooding the comment section. A royal watcher penned, “No matter what went wrong in their lives, they both really loved their kids. Both parents delighted in them, regardless of their thoughts on each other. It's very sad how it all turned out.” In agreement, another fan wrote, "'Harry, don't tread on my toes!’ So cute. They were so innocent and carefree.” Reiterating the sentiment, another added, “It makes me sad to think that William and Harry are drifting apart like this. For a long time after Princess Diana passed, they only had each other...That's a bond that should never break.” As the comments poured in, another hoped, “Loved the relationship between the brothers when they were small. Maybe they can mend their ways and get it back again.”

William and Harry today share a fractured relationship, with the brothers avoiding each other on rare occasions when Harry visits the UK. In his Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, Harry reflected on the infamous Sandringham Summit in 2020, where the brothers met with Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III to discuss his and wife Meghan Markle’s future roles. Harry described, "It became very clear very quickly that that goal was not up for discussion or debate. It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that simply weren't true and my grandmother quietly sit there and sort of take it all in."

As per People magazine, Harry said that the experience created a lasting wedge. He added, "The saddest part of it was this wedge created between myself and my brother so that he's now on the institution's side." Harry also criticized the royal family’s relationship with the media, alleging a toxic culture of leaks and planted stories. He recalled a particularly hurtful incident in 2020 when a statement rebutting bullying allegations against William was released in both their names—without Harry’s consent. He said, “They were happy to lie to protect my brother. And yet, for three years, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."

Despite their differences, Harry has expressed hope for reconciliation. In his 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, he described his relationship with William as 'space at the moment' but added, that he still 'loves William to bits.' He stressed, "We've been through hell together…And you know, time heals all things, hopefully." However, insiders suggest the road to harmony may be long. A source close to the royal household stated, “It will take a long time before there is harmony between the brothers. There is a lot of anger there."
