Queen Camilla’s attendance at the upcoming Remembrance events remains uncertain as she recovers from a chest infection, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

While the Queen, 77, had hoped to participate in commemorative activities this week, doctors have recommended she rest, underscoring the importance of her health amid a busy period for the royal family.

Recently, Her Majesty was absent from both the annual Field of Remembrance ceremony at Westminster Abbey, represented instead by the Duchess of Gloucester, and a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, hosted by King Charles.

According to a palace statement, "His Majesty The King and Members of the royal family will attend engagements to mark Remembrance in 2024," though Camilla’s participation will "be subject to medical advice nearer the time." Her hope to join highlights the dedication she brings to her royal duties despite her recent health concerns.

Remembrance events are deeply significant in British culture, marking respect for military service members who have sacrificed their lives. The planned events include the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

These gatherings will feature prominent royals, including the King, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. In Camilla’s potential absence, Catherine, Princess of Wales, is confirmed to attend, reflecting her return to public life following her cancer diagnosis and preventative chemotherapy earlier in the year.

Princess Kate’s presence at the Remembrance events holds particular significance as she steps back into her role after a period of relative seclusion.

The palace’s confirmation that both she and other senior royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent, will be present underscores the royal family’s collective commitment to honoring service members.

The health challenges facing senior royals, especially Camilla, highlight the demands of royal responsibilities and the critical role that public appearances play in their lives. Camilla and Kate’s contrasting health journeys this year further exemplify their dedication and resilience in upholding the symbolic importance of Remembrance Day.

Her Majesty Queen Camilla wore a Fiona Clare silk crepe dress of royal blue, along with the Australian wattle broch upon arrival in Sydney, Australia, October 18, 2024.

This news comes as the consort is reportedly not a fan of WhatsApp, which is just as well according to her son, Tom Parker-Bowles, 49, who revealed the reason Her Majesty avoids the popular app within the royal family.

Asked by an outlet if his family uses WhatsApp, the author said, "We do — my children, my sister and cousins — but my mum still uses an old-fashioned Nokia telephone, so [she] can’t. I think it’s for security."

The food author also revealed how difficult it is to keep up with his mother these days since she became Charles III's Queen Consort on September 8, 2022.
