Princess Diana, She Is Not: Queen Camilla Labeled King Charles' 'Rock' and the 'Yin' to His 'Yang' in New Royal Documentary
Queen Camilla is the "yin" to King Charles III's "yang," despite fervor from many Diana, Princess of Wales, fans who refuse to support the Queen due to the turmoil they feel she caused in the King's first marriage.
"She is his rock, and I can't actually emphasize that enough. She is somebody who is completely loyal, and she isn't somebody who has huge highs and lows," the consort's sister, Annabell Elliot, shared in a new royal documentary.
"He brings to her everything, I'm not talking about all of this, but you know he has such a knowledge and interest in so many different things which she wouldn't really have been open to if she hadn't met him. They are their yin and yang, really, they really are polar opposites, but it works brilliantly," she added.
"Whether they've sort of had to fight to get there, or whether it's just because they've been through a lot together... it's made them have a really strong bond," Her Majesty's friend, Fiona, the Marchioness of Landsdowne, also shared in Charles III: The Coronation Year.
Later in the program, Richard Jackson, the Bishop of Hereford, who assisted the Queen during the crowning service, revealed: "I think what struck me particularly is how extraordinarily affectionate they are. They're clearly a very close family of all the generations, and in a sense, you felt you were part of a family occasion as well as a royal occasion and a national occasion."
The King and Queen have known one another for over 50 years, having first met in 1970 when they were both in their early 20s. Although the pair had a romance at that time, Camilla went on to marry Andrew Parker-Bowles in 1973, which was said to have broken the then-future king's heart. The Prince of Wales met Lady Diana Spencer in 1977, and the two started dating three years later before their "fairytale wedding" in the summer of 1981.
Prince Charles would later admit in a 1994 interview that he cheated on Diana with Camilla only when his marriage had become "irretrievably broken down" sometime during the mid-1980s. Andrew and Camilla divorced in 1995, and the Prince and Princess of Wales followed suit the following year.
Diana's tragic death in 1997 put the brakes on Charles and Camilla going public with their relationship, and the two did not officially appear as a couple until 1999. Their marriage on April 9, 2005, preceded a long but steady rehabilitation of their image in the eyes of the British public that by the time of Charles's accession to the throne on September 8, 2022, their detractors were few and far between.
