Gary the Lightweight: Princess Kate's Uncle's Lashing Out at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'Carries Very Little Water'
Princess Kate's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has attacked the character of both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle while on Celebrity Big Brother. But one PR expert claims the businessman's words are falling on deaf ears.
"Because Goldsmith's is Kate's uncle, his admonishment of Meghan and Harry, l while noteworthy, likely carries very little water in influencing the fate of the duo," public relations analyst Ryan McCormick told an outlet.
"I think Gary exercised poor judgment by making those comments at a time when Kate is recovering and when Harry is trying to reconnect with his family," he added. "Goldsmith while part of the royal family is not in the royal family bloodline. It seems strange that he felt he was in a position to voice an opinion like this."
McCormick continued: "From a PR perspective, Gary's statements will not impact Meghan and Harry's image, However, I wouldn't be surprised if he abruptly stops commenting on the royals for the indefinite future."
On the Wednesday, March 6, episode, Goldsmith boasted: "I can pretty much say my opinion about everything unless there’s a red laser dot on my chest," when asked by fellow contestant Louis Walsh if he could discuss the royal family.
Kate's uncle continued by sharing how he thinks "Harry was really, really loved, massively loved" and that "they looked really comfortable together," when remembering his niece and Princes William and Harry out on royal engagements before Harry met Meghan Markle in 2016.
Goldsmith said that the Suits star "put a stick in the spokes and created so much drama that I genuinely don’t think was there and rewrote the history and said how unhappy [Harry] was, and I don’t think that’s fair."
The future queen's relative pointed out that Harry "might need to" return to the U.K. He observed: "I think we’re a very forgiving nation. I think everyone will give him a chance again. I think the meanest thing I said was, 'He wouldn’t make my pub quiz team.'"
Then he came to the topic of his niece and what it is like to be related to someone who will one day be called "Queen Catherine."
"Do you want the absolute truth? I didn’t vote for it; it happened to me, and then suddenly there’s a spotlight on you," Goldsmith spilled.
Goldsmith makes his appearance as the Princess of Wales continues to recover from a "serious" abdominal surgery she received on January 16. The future queen was spotted in a car with her mother, Carole, on Monday, March 4, and is still expected to return to royal duties sometime "after Easter."
Daily Mirror reported on McCormick's remarks.
