Princess Kate Royal Return: Future Queen Should Take on Duties 'Sooner' Rather Than Later in Order to Shut Down Conspiracies
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is closing in on her date to return to public-facing royal duties, but some analysts think it should be sooner than "after Easter."
"Easter is early this year, and if the palace is smart, they will urge Kate to join the rest of the royal family for their traditional Easter Sunday services at Windsor," royal author Christopher Andersen told an outlet.
"Originally, Kate was aiming for a mid-April return to public life," he added. "If she fails to show up on March 31 — or ideally even sooner — that will trigger a new avalanche of conspiracy theories. It’s a no-brainer — a simple and easy way to begin reclaiming the public's trust."
The future queen released a photograph on Sunday, March 10, that featured herself, and her three children, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte. A huge controversy arose sometime later when major media outlets such as the Associated Press and Reuters recalled the image due to suspicious alterations found within it. The snap was taken by Prince William and is the first clear image of the princess since Christmas Day 2023.
Scouts on social media noticed a litany of editing mishaps, with Charlotte's hands being called out as "clearly cut and paste" from previous images. Conspiracies even arose that the photo of the Princess of Wales was an old image from when she appeared in a magazine years ago. This eventually led major news outlets to "flag" Kensington Palace press and image releases.
"Getty Images is undertaking a review of handout images and, in accordance with its editorial policy, is placing an editor’s note on images where the source has suggested they could be digitally enhanced," a spokesperson for Getty Images stated.
"It is a great pity that PR professionals at Kensington Palace let this debacle occur," royal expert Hilary Fordwich dished. "On the contrary, they should have led the narrative. But that isn’t easy in this day and age. Given the recent security breach regarding her medical records, the pressure on Kate and the palace is intense. Leaks have spiraled out of control and given more flame to fires of speculation."
She continued: "The resulting chaos has created unprecedented problems of perception, as well as a loss of stature, being damaging to the royal image of excellence and propriety."
It is also unknown when or if the future king and queen will undertake "much-needed" overseas tours of the Commonwealth and other nations.
"The Prince and Princess of Wales were going on an official visit to Italy," royal commentator Richard Fitzwillams told an outlet. "When health matters permit, this will hopefully be rescheduled. With the Princess of Wales unwell and King Charles [battling cancer], it is a nightmarish time for royal planners."
