Princess Eugenie 'Takes a Back Seat': Junior Royal Is 'Not Keen to Take on Royal' Duties Like Her Sister Princess Beatrice
Princess Eugenie is one junior British royal who does not yearn to become a senior, working member of the monarchy. This is in stark contrast to her elder sister, Princess Beatrice, who has been "stepping up" to help the Crown during King Charles' illness.
"Eugenie, on the other hand, is not as keen to take on that kind of responsibility as she despises being under a microscope and wants to focus on what’s dear to her," a source close to the two princesses spilled.
Princess "Beatrice stepped up to represent the royal family at Mental Health Week recently which is an event Kate would have attended," they added when highlighting Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's first child's work ethic. "She’s also been taking the lead at public occasions like the Cheltenham Festival and other family gatherings which is a clear sign of her taking on more royal responsibility."
This insight comes as the two sisters may never be asked to become "working royals" and royal expert Angela Levin insinuates this may be a good thing.
"They would maybe leak something [to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle], and it might be awkward because of the problems that Prince Andrew is still having," the author told an outlet.
"It is difficult to see major roles for Prince Andrew's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. That is not because they are not willing, they are nice people and good ambassadors for this country," royal commentator Michael Cole shared.
"He [King Charles] wants to concentrate on the direct line of succession, from him to Prince William and then Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. That is how he wants it. But the King deliberately wants to concentrate on the main line of succession," Cole added. "If that means there will be fewer royal appearances around the country and the Commonwealth, then so be it."
In contrast to these plans, "Eugenie is quite happy to take a back seat," the source observed. "She’s quite content with championing her Slavery Collective charity and other worthy causes, but when it comes to stepping in for more senior members of the royal family in more of an official capacity is where she draws the line."
"Beatrice has become an important part of the royal family, especially as Kate recovers," the source said. "Both the King and William have seen how well Beatrice has stepped up in recent weeks and that’s why they are happy to push her to the front and represent the family in public."
They concluded: "Although the move is currently being seen as a temporary unofficial role to help plug the gaps while Charles and Kate recover, it could become more permanent in the future."
