Princess Diana had bold aspirations after separating from Prince Charles in 1996. Apart from supporting charitable causes, the Princess of Wales allegedly also dreamed of making it big in Hollywood. Although she did want to try her hand at acting, it was film direction that she was more drawn to. "She was an aficionado and keen enthusiast about the performing arts, particularly dance, but this (acting) was not something she saw as being her now creative trajectory. She knew she was much better as a person behind the camera rather than in front of the camera," voice coach and author Stewart Pearce claimed.
Pearce shared that Diana had several ideas in mind but was particularly keen about making documentaries, the Mirror reported. “No, no, no,” he stated in response to a question concerning her desire to become Hollywood's leading lady. “That is something that Diana was not interested in. Not at all." He explained, “She would have stayed behind the lens. I was very fortunate to attend a number of private parties where we went to theatres."
Pearce revealed that the late Princess wished to use the big screen to share her love of charity, “There were a number of major projects brewing in her conciseness through [projects] that had been offered to her. But one of the major opportunities that she wanted to create, was to start developing documentaries about three charitable interests that would then be assimilated into major movie pictures. She was planning on spending a lot of time in Hollywood." He shared that Diana was at a point in life where she was "really beginning to explore her creative power.”
Pearce, her close confidante, revealed that she had already discussed her ambitious plans with her lover at the time, Egyptian producer Dodi Fayed. “I do not know how serious Dodi was about fulfilling his practice as a producer. These were just possibilities being discussed," the author said. Diana had also made contacts with Oscar-winner and film producer Lord David Puttnam. “David was advising her about a number of people she was going to be in contact with...,” Pearce claimed.

According to Vanity Fair, columnist Tina Brown also disclosed that Diana “grew up associating the camera with love.” “I played the piano. I loved the piano. I did my tap dancing which I absolutely adored,” the Princess of Wales herself also admitted to author Andrew Morton during their conversations. “She did enjoy the feeling of being a forties movie star,” designer Jasper Conran confirmed. “It was all about the entrance, everyone clapping and cheering. She loved that.”
Meanwhile, Paul Burrell, Diana's former butler claimed that the Princess was looking forward to leaving behind 'the establishment', the class system, and the harsh media scrutiny after her divorce. She even planned to shift into actress Julie Andrew's Malibu mansion. He said, “I saw the plans,” while appearing on Good Morning America in 2006. “We sat on the floor, spread out all the maps and the layout of the house. ‘This is our new life, just won’t it be great, think of the lifestyle the boys—nobody’s judgmental here in America, you don’t have the class system, you don’t have the establishment.’”
