Princess Charlotte delighted royal fans during the traditional Christmas Day walkabout at Sandringham by stopping to take a selfie with a well-wisher!

This charming moment was uploaded to Instagram, where one self-titled royal historian shared, "This gesture signifies a shift in royal protocol, as such interactions were previously discouraged."

During the annual event, Charlotte, accompanied by her parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, and her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis, graciously accepted gifts from the public, including flowers and chocolates.

HRH wore an adorable blue coat dress embroidered with a tartan pattern, coordinating with her mother who donned a forest green Alexander McQueen coat and a green and blue tartan scarf.

This isn't the first time Charlotte has engaged in such interactions either. Earlier this year, she posed for a selfie with Taylor Swift during the singer's Eras Tour, alongside her father and brother. Such instances reflect a gradual relaxation of the royal family's stance on selfies, aiming to foster a closer connection with the public instead of the distant mystique favored by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Historically, Elizabeth II was known to prefer traditional greetings during public engagements, expressing concerns over the prevalence of mobile phones. However, the younger generation of royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, have been more accommodating, often posing for selfies with admirers.

One admirer on Instagram shared how Charlotte "is the personification of what we loved in traditional royals," while another pointed out how selfies "are changing how the public interacts with the royals for the better."

"Princess Charlotte's willingness to engage with the public in this manner highlights the evolving nature of the monarchy, balancing tradition with modernity," a palace source said. "Such interactions contribute to a more relatable and approachable image of the royal family, resonating with contemporary societal norms."

As the royal family continues to adapt to changing times, moments like these underscore their commitment to maintaining public engagement and support. Charlotte's actions during the Christmas Day walkabout exemplify this ongoing evolution, blending royal duties with personal warmth and accessibility.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has reportedly developed a loving 'bond' with Princess Charlotte.

Royal fans also noted that Charlotte's mannerisms bear a resemblance to her great-grandmother. One observer remarked, "She looks like her great-grandmother the Queen Elizabeth," while another pointed out, "If you look at Michael Middleton’s profile, you can see Princess Charlotte."

This led royal author Phil Dampier to disclose, "I'm told Charlotte has also inherited from the late Queen a brilliant ability to mimic prominent figures."

This unique skill mirrors the late monarch's penchant for impersonations, which once enlivened family gatherings with renditions of political figures, including U.S. presidents and post-Soviet Russian leader Boris Yeltsin.
