Princess Anne Unfiltered: Hardworking Former Equestrian Has 'Always Been No Nonsense' Despite Being 'Easiest Royal to Get Along With'
Princess Anne, who turns 74 on August 15, has long been praised for her blunt, "no nonsense" attitude, which former butler to Princess Diana, Paul Burrell, found to be refreshing during his royal service from 1987 to 1997.
"Anne is the easiest royal to get along with, to be honest with you," Diana's "rock" shared with Slingo. "She was always no-nonsense when I knew her back in the day. I'm sure she hasn't changed. She calls a spade a spade. If she doesn't like you, she’ll tell you. She doesn't p----foot around anyone."
This insight comes after the Princess Royal spent some three weeks recuperating from a "mysterious" horse-related accident at her Gatcombe Park home on June 23. After a return to work in mid-July, HRH is said to wish to prefer to "avoid this fuss" and just "get on with it."
"I don't think Princess Anne is particularly the self-pitying kind," royal expert Gareth Russell shared. "I don't think we'll see a big sit-down interview where she discusses the horseriding accident at all. I don't think it's really in her nature. That being said, she's often quite candid in interviews, so if she's asked about it, she might talk about it."
But I'd be very surprised if she felt that it was in the public's interest or beholden of her to sit down and talk about the incident where she was injured," he added. "I don't think that's in her personality or track record."
As a veteran equestrian, the Princess Royal is currently in Paris where she will attend events for the entirety of the 2024 Summer Olympics in the French capital. She competed in the 1976 Summer Games in Montreal, Canada, and is now the official president of the British Olympic Association.
The hardworking royal has made headlines ever since the incident that caused her to lose some of her memory surrounding her head injury in late June.
"We still don't know the details of what actually happened when she met this horse and what happened," royal reporter Michael Cole dished "Apparently she has no memory of it. So maybe it will remain a mystery between her and the horse."
As for Her Royal Highness' dynamic with other royals, one insider said she has always got on well with them, except for one rebel icon.
"For the most part, the Princess Royal managed to get along with everyone in her family," a former palace aide shared in 2016. "She did have a rough go with it with Diana, but then again, many people did because [Diana] was so temperamental and set in her ways, just like Anne sometimes."
They concluded: "The Princess Royal disliked how Diana handled and used the media for manipulative purposes."
