Rumors have long swirled about Prince William’s alleged affair with British peeress Rose Hanbury. When Kate Middleton was absent from public engagements during her cancer treatment, Hanbury found herself back in the royal spotlight. Eagle-eyed royal fans spotted her wearing the same hat that Middleton had worn on numerous occasions.

Hanbury a.k.a Sarah Rose Cholmondeley is happily married to David Cholmondeley, the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley. Her lawyers vehemently denied the claims of an affair, calling them 'completely false.' Kensington Palace has also refuted the same, and Hanbury has continued to attend ceremonies with the royal family members. However, on one such occasion, at a service dedication for the Order of the British Empire at St Paul’s Cathedral, TikTok sleuths spotted her wearing the same dark Lock & Co. Tiffany hat that Middleton had worn at major events.

Middleton is known for her elegant hat choices. She wore the same Lock & Co. Tiffany hat during a Commonwealth event at Westminster Abbey in 2018 as well as at the Remembrance Sunday service in 2021. The Princess of Wales and the Peeress were long-time best friends but allegedly drifted apart, which led to the affair rumors. In April 2023, Us Weekly reported that the allegations had brought William and Middleton closer, strengthening their relationship. "It forced [Middleton] and William to sit back and examine their relationship, which they realized they should have been doing more often," a source close to the royal pair said. They added, “Regardless of their ups and downs, they love each other dearly, and their kids are the most important thing in their lives."

The matching hats weren’t the only ‘accidental’ twinning between Hanbury and Middleton. Both women were also seen donning the same Aquazurra's Bow Tie Pumps in black at King Charles III's coronation. Hanbury was also spotted wearing a tiara strikingly similar to the one Middleton wore in 2023. According to The List, Hanbury has worn the Ancaster Heathcote Tiara on several occasions, including at the 2015 Chinese State Banquet and the 2017 Spanish State Visit Banquet. This heirloom, passed down through the Cholmondeley family, dates back to 1952. Both Hanbury and William have denied allegations of an affair through their respective spokespersons, but the lack of direct response has continued to fuel suspicions of a ‘feud’ between her and Middleton.

According to reports, apart from Middleton, Hanbury also has other royal connections, with her maternal grandmother, Lady Elizabeth Lambart, once serving as a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding. As the daughter of renowned designers Timothy Hanbury and Emma Longman, Lady Rose attended the prestigious Stowe School before pursuing a career in modeling.
