Exclusive: Prince William Taking the Throne Would 'Necessitate Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Developing a Close Friendship'
When King Charles III dies, Britain and the Commonwealth will get King William V — but as an added surprise — his future subjects may also receive a Queen Catherine and Meghan Markle reunion to boot. Speaking exclusively with The Royal Observer, royal and cultural commentator Mark Boardman shares how this unlikely bond could be rekindled.
"Should Prince William ascend to the throne, it's fair to say that he would seek to mend any rifts with his younger brother Harry," Boardman states. "However, this would likely necessitate Meghan and Kate developing a close friendship as well, but it would be a necessity considering the public interest."
William and Harry are currently mired down in a "bitter feud," which some analysts have gone so far as to say that it may never end. There are multiple claims from insiders that the Prince of Wales even "hates" the Duke of Sussex, and nearly all of this stems from Harry's memoir, Spare.
The tome took multiple potshots at the future king upon its release on January 10, 2023, and contained two key passages that have dominated headlines about it ever since. One was Harry's recounting of an alleged physical altercation he had with his brother in 2019. Harry claimed William threw him to the ground in a fit of rage, which caused his back to land on and break a dog's water bowl on the floor.
The Duke of Sussex frequently made fun of William's "balding head," which led him to "lose his good looks" in recent years. He also accused his older brother of never liking the Duchess of Sussex and never doing anything to defend him or her when it came to toxic press coverage about them.
The book also laid bare the animosity between the Princess of Wales and Duchess of Sussex, however, recent reports suggest that Boardman's observation about the two royal ladies could become true as time goes by.
The insider shared how the Duchess of Sussex personally "reached out" to her sister-in-law and father-in-law in an effort to end the years-long animosity between the fractured royal houses. Another source stated how "Meghan is supportive of Harry in all of this, and she wishes the royals — Kate included — the very best."
The first insider also stated how even though the ex-actress wasn't in Britain when Harry visited on February 6, she did persuade her husband to "spend time" with his ailing dad, and tell him how much he loves him. The Duke of Sussex spent only one hour (some reports claim 45 minutes) with King Charles.
The King's malignancy has led many to start imagining a King William era much sooner than initially expected. Recent reports suggest that His Majesty is dedicated to his treatments, yet the severity of his condition, its stage and prognosis has been left vague.
