Prince William's Bold Gamble: Future King Recruits Ally of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for Earthshot Initiative
Prince William has reportedly recruited an ally to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to work on his upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, this November.
The Prince of Wales tapped José Andrés, a Spanish-American chef, to be a part of the prize's panel of judges for the various awards presented.
The chef and environmentalist has a collaborative relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex through their shared philanthropic efforts. The royal rebels, via their organization Archewell Foundation, have partnered with Andrés's nonprofit, World Central Kitchen (WCK), on several initiatives.
In December 2020, Archewell announced a partnership with World Central Kitchen to build community relief centers worldwide, which would serve as hubs for food distribution, education, health services, and support in times of crisis.
Despite his raging feud with his brother and sister-in-law, the future king was said to have been "impressed and moved" by Andrés' work with the Sussex duo.
On his appointment to the monarch-in-waiting's panel, the chef shared, "I am thrilled to join the Earthshot Prize Council to help showcase the changemakers pushing the boundaries of innovation and ingenuity around the world. In good times and hard times, I’ve seen firsthand the power of food to heal and unite communities."
He added, "Food is the best way to address some of the planet’s most pressing challenges, and I firmly believe that we must transform our food systems to be more sustainable and equitable."
Andrés once said of Harry and Meghan, "In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle."
The appointment will undoubtedly have many skeptical of the appointment if only due to the bitter relations between the Wales and Sussex camps.
The Montecito royals are not giving in to their demand that both the heir to the throne and Catherine, Princess of Wales, apologize to them for past alleged slights. Furthermore, the California Duke wants the apology to be "groveling," almost to the point of bowing.
"He wants to reconcile with his brother so that the children can have some kind of a relationship," royal author Tom Quinn dished. "But he and Meghan still think that a groveling apology needs to come from William and Kate first."
As The Royal Observer previously reported, Prince Harry and Meghan have not visited the United Kingdom as a couple since the September 19, 2022, State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Numerous commentators have shared how they feel the former Suits star "will never set foot in Britain again."
