Prince William Sparks Fears! Future Monarch’s Last Minute 'Drop Out' From Event Has Royal Watchers on Edge
The Prince of Wales quickly canceled a recent, major royal engagement.
Prince William's cancelation of a major royal event on Tuesday, February 27, due to a "personal matter" has led many royal watchers to spark fears about what the problem could be. With King Charles III battling cancer and his wife, Kate, Princess of Wales, still recuperating from major abdominal surgery, anxiety around their conditions or some new issue with the Prince of Wales is in overdrive!
Prince William only gave 'personal reasons' as his excuse for canceling his appearance.
"This is going to fuel all sorts of lurid speculation," GB News' Andrew Pierce said on-air. "The Princess of Wales is sick, the King has got cancer, has he got health issues? Is it the children? I hope he’s alright, I hope everything is OK."
Pierce's co-host, Tom Harwood, replied: "I think if he’d pulled out a week or so in advance, with something unavoidable, that would be a different kettle of fish. It’s very last minute, and usually perhaps for this royal family, which has been more open about a lot of the issues it’s facing."
Harwood added: "In previous decades, the royal family has been a lot more closed, but we’re not getting any information about this."
The future king was due to lead the congregation in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle for the funeral of King Constantine of Greece.
Prince William's exit was said to not have anything to do with Princess Kate.
The heir to the throne's reason for missing the service is believed to be unrelated to his wife Princess Kate's recovery from an abdominal surgery she had last month. While details regarding William's absence remain disclosed, a source confirmed to a news publication: "The Princess of Wales continues to be doing well."
Charles' absence from the service for his second cousin at St George's Chapel in Windsor comes in the midst of his ongoing cancer battle.
The specific kind of cancer the king was diagnosed with has not been revealed to the public.
The Duke of York helped to lead the British royals at the ceremony.
Despite William and Charles' absence at the somber event, other royals — including Prince Andrew, his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and Queen Camilla — were in attendance.
His Majesty's brother and Sarah were spotted arriving with their children, though Andrew was later assigned a seat next to the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
Fans of the royal family weren't too pleased to see Andrew as one of the most prominent faces at the event, as the disgraced son of Queen Elizabeth II was forced to step down from his roles within the British monarchy due to his ties to s-- offender Jeffrey Epstein.
"'Prince Andrew leads…' should not be anywhere next to 'Royal Family'. I’m sorry but this is terrible optics all around," one critic complained on social media, as another shocked viewer said: "Andrew?!!!!!!!!"
The Prince of Wales has been leading the public face of the monarchy as King Charles battles cancer.
