Royal Ducking Game: Prince William Is 'Doing the Utmost' to Avoid Prince Harry During California Duke's U.K. Trip
Princes William and Harry will unfortunately not be meeting now that the California Duke has arrived in Britain. The estranged brothers were not predicted to have a reunion, which means their "bitter feud" will rage on as William is "doing the utmost" to avoid Harry. Although an insider claimed that Harry "has privately expressed a wish to sit down with his brother," the Prince of Wales feels "now is not the time."
"William hates the fact that Harry has washed so much royal dirty linen in public; he doesn’t want to be seen as the one who is unforgiving," royal author Tom Quinn dished. "William knows that the world will be watching when his little brother rolls into town, and as a king in waiting, he knows people expect him to be mature and magnanimous."
However, numerous analysts feel that a physical reunion between the royal siblings is "inevitable." According to a royal insider, "Be it while his father still reigns or the huge moment when the King dies and William accedes to the throne, the meeting between Harry and William will occur."
"William is dreading meeting Harry because, however it happens, it’s going to be more embarrassing in many ways for William than for Harry," Quinn added. "Harry is the naughty boy who thinks he can say whatever he likes, and although many people have criticized him for breaking the royal code of silence so publicly, many others are still sympathetic because he clearly feels he’s had a really difficult time."
In his January 2023 memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex spilled details of an alleged physical altercation between himself and the future king in 2019.
"He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me," Harry wrote. "It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me," he continued. "I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out."
Any such meeting to try and bury some of the "mountains of drama" between them is said to be "far off into the future."
"William has been asking his aides if there is any way he can avoid meeting his brother without it looking bad," Quinn observed. "There may be a perfunctory meeting where they’re just isn’t time to get into any of those ancient grievances that have kept them apart, but William is doing his utmost to avoid it."
Daily Mirror reported on Quinn's remarks.
