In December last year, Prince Harry finally set the record straight and addressed the rumors surrounding his marriage to Meghan Markle. As the couple made more solo appearances and pursued separate business ventures, rumors were rife about trouble in paradise. Despite the growing speculation, both Harry and Markle have rejected these claims.
At the New York Times DealBook Summit, Harry was asked about reports claiming he and Markle had stepped back from working together. As reported by Newsweek, journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin noted, "Even as we were in the race coming up to this day, I Googled news about you and there are people fascinated by everything you do and all the time.” As reported by People magazine, he added, “They're fascinated that Meghan is in California right now, and you're here. And there are articles left and right about, you know, why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren't you doing them together?"
Harry joked, "Because you invited me...you should have known, you should have known that was going to happen." The journalist asked, "True. Is that normal for you? The second, there's an article — she's in California, you're in New York — they say, 'Well, what is happening with these two, right?' Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there's so much interest in you?" Unable to avoid the questions any further, Harry said, "No, that's definitely not a good thing. Apparently, we've bought or moved house 10-12 times. We've apparently divorced maybe 10-12 times as well. So, it's just like, what? So, it's hard to keep up with, but that's why you just sort of ignore it."
He continued, "The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it's like, 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,' and then it doesn't happen. So, I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do." During the time of his interview, Markle was in Beverly Hills cheering for Tyler Perry as he received an honor at The Paley Center. Perry is godfather to Princess Lilibet and has been a pillar of support for the Sussexes. He famously helped Harry and Markle with a place to stay when they first arrived in the U.S. At the award ceremony, Perry commented on the strength of the couple's relationship.
The actor claimed that Harry and Markle loved each other and they have a beautiful family. As reported by The Mirror, he expressed his love for the couple and claimed that the bond he shares with them is real, pure, and beautiful. When asked about the public's obsession with the royal couple, Perry said he doesn’t pay attention to the media.
