King Charles III's cancer scare has drawn the monarch closer to his eldest son and heir, Prince William. A palace insider has stepped forward to reveal that the Prince of Wales was "entirely relaxed" with the King meeting with his youngest son, Prince Harry, on February 6, but the sovereign-in-waiting has "no intention" of reconciling with the Duke of Sussex.

Prince Harry used to be close with King Charles and Prince William.

"I think William is particularly grateful things are so good now because it’s fair to say the relationship between William and his father when he was younger was strained," a friend of the heir to the throne revealed to a publication. "William and Harry had an extraordinary upbringing, with the trauma of their mother’s death overshadowing everything."

They continued: "Charles was this old-fashioned, quite distant figure who seemed much more interested in work and duty and what the press thought of him than parenting. That forged an incredibly strong bond between Harry and William, which was why it was such a shock when Harry turned on him so publicly."

The pal spoke further about how Harry's drama has brought the monarch and his heir closer. "The Harry debacle definitely drew them together, but since Charles became king, and he became Prince of Wales, the relationship has moved to a different level. Charles values William’s support. They are closer now than they have ever been."

If and when the King dies, the Prince of Wales immediately accedes to the British throne as King William V. His wife will become Queen Catherine, and Prince George will automatically become the Duke of Cornwall. Royal analysts, fans, and indeed well-wishers across the globe hope that these events will be many years in the future, especially since Queen Elizabeth II's death is still fresh in "everyone's memory," a palace insider shared.

The King is still fulfilling the official "paperwork" of both the Crown and the head of state's required duties, but it now falls to the king-in-waiting to step up and lead the public profile of the monarchy. This is reportedly not easy for the Prince of Wales since Kate, Princess of Wales, is still recovering from a major abdominal surgery.

But William is dedicated to his father during this crisis, and is even further committed to ensuring his brother's controversies are easily dismissed.

A palace source claims Prince William is 'reluctant' to become monarch, but would 'accept his duty without hesitation' if King Charles died.

"William is a strong-minded character, but the reason everything is working is because he respects his father’s rank," the source observed. "He wouldn’t dream of telling the king how to run his personal life. He doesn’t want to see Harry because he thinks it would all just be put in the next book or TV interview, which is what happened this time, but he is entirely relaxed about his father meeting with his son."
