Sussex 'Half-Year Hustle': Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Intercontinental 'Six Month Plan' for a Royal Comeback Unveiled
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle once had a "fully realized" six-month plan to return to royal duties on a part-time basis.
Royal author Tom Quinn explained, "Six months in the U.K. as a working royal followed by six months in the States would boost brand Sussex which is less and less interesting without the working royal angle."
The plan was allegedly launched "primarily by Meghan" during "Megxit" negotiations in January 2020. It was ultimately shot down by the late Queen Elizabeth II who was said to have shared with the pair "you're either in or out" of the monarchy.
Quinn added, "Meghan and Harry had always hoped that when Queen Elizabeth died, Charles would take a less strict view of what it means to be a working royal."
Over two years into his reign, the King has not been swayed to break any of the long-standing rules establishing how the royal family represents the Crown.
Quinn shared how the American public was just as interested in Harry and Meghan's royal lives and association as British subjects were, which may have unpleasantly surprised the duo.
"The American public would have much preferred it if Harry had not given up his royal role — that's all he's ever been trained for and that's the main thing that made him interesting," the author continued. "Now he's lost that, why should anyone in the States be interested, and Meghan hates the idea that she might be pulled down by this."
Although a part-time thing may have been on the table nearly five years ago in a different reign, the Meghan of today "would never consider a return to the monarchy," a Sussex insider revealed.
However, one analyst believes the Duke of Sussex will reportedly leave his Duchess one day for a permanent return home to the United Kingdom.
Veteran royal author and historian Hugo Vickers told royal editor Matt Wilkinson on "The Sun's Royal Exclusive" podcast that the rebel Duke is currently overflowing with "anger" and an intense fear of losing Meghan, but this "dysfunction" cannot continue much longer.
"Where do you think they will be in 20 years time?" Wilkinson asked.
"I think he'll come home," the scribe replied. "I think he'll come home, and if he comes home, we must be very nice to him because he won't particularly want to. He's quite angry I think."
The presenter then wondered if the King, if still reigning, would welcome his youngest child back, to which Vickers shared, "Yes, I do. The King has left the door wide open for him to do that and he was doing such a good job before and... he looked so happy."
Daily Express reported on the Sussex plan.
