Sussexes Trump Era 'Plan B': Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Set Up Portuguese Escape Pad as U.S. Tensions Rise
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's reported $4.7 million dollar home in Portugal is reportedly an "emergency escape plan" for Team Sussex now that Donald Trump will become president in January 2025.
A source told RadarOnline.com, "The wheels could really come off for Harry and Meghan if Trump decides to get involved with his [Harry’s] citizenship so that’s why they have purchased overseas. They needed a Plan B."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly purchased their Portuguese pad after visiting Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank at their lavish spread south of Lisbon last year. The Sussex property is part of the Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club on the European nation's ritzy West Coast.
Trump stunned the world by winning the 2024 U.S. presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris. As the nation anticipates his second term, attention has shifted to Prince Harry’s ongoing visa troubles, fueled by Trump’s apparent dislike of the fiery-haired prince.
When asked by an outlet if the Duke would get "special privileges" if he lied on his 2020 visa application, the President-elect replied, "No. We'll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they'll have to take appropriate action."
This led a U.S. constitutional historian to spill how the American head of state and government has "formidable powers," which Trump "would utilize" against the Duke elected.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said the Sussex move "makes clear that they are connected closely to part of the royal family."
Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, have stepped up their public support for Prince William at various events. This increased presence has fueled speculation that William may assign them more prominent duties within the monarchy when he takes the throne.
Despite her growing alignment with William, however, Eugenie has also preserved a close relationship with Prince Harry, maintaining ties across the family divide. This "sly" tactic has many royal and Sussex fans wondering what the junior royal's motives truly are, and where her "loyalties lie."
Her connection to Meghan dates back to before the Duchess of Sussex and Harry became a couple. The two reportedly met through fashion designer Misha Nonoo, and both were guests at Nonoo’s wedding in 2012 to Alexander Gilkes, a close friend of Harry from their school years.
Regardless, Eugenie "remains one of Harry’s closest royal allies," according to an insider, with reports suggesting that she is the only member of the royal family to have visited the couple at their Montecito home.
After last year’s Invictus Games, the Sussex duo reportedly took a romantic three-night trip to Portugal. Sources suggest they may have stayed with Eugenie and Brooksbank, who own a home at the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, where Jack is employed.
The Brooksbanks currently divide their time between Portugal and Nottingham Cottage near Kensington Palace — the former residence of Harry and Meghan.
