Prince Harry's anticipated return to the U.K. in January 2025 for his "endless" legal battle against News Group Newspapers has the royal family on edge.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggests the Duke of Sussex's presence could "cause absolute havoc" for King Charles III and other senior royals.

King Charles reportedly only met with Prince Harry once in 2024, the day after his cancer diagnosis was announced.

The lawsuit centers on allegations of unlawful information gathering by journalists and private investigators from 1996 to 2011. Harry is among two claimants proceeding to trial after 39 others settled.

Fitzwilliams notes that the royal family is "nervously" awaiting Harry's solo return, concerned about potential revelations that could emerge during the trial. The Duke's previous disclosures, including those in his memoir Spare, have strained familial relationships, particularly with his brother, Prince William.

"The trial will be sensational just like his last appearance in the witness box was sensational," the expert said. "If Harry were to say something in court that he said the King said to him, whether or not the King actually did, it would cause absolute havoc."

The timing of the trial coincides with King Charles's ongoing health challenges, adding to the family's apprehension. The monarch has been undergoing treatment for cancer, and the stress of public scrutiny during this period is unwelcome.

The Duke of Sussex's January 2025 trial is reportedly 'causing tension' at Buckingham Palace.

Despite the tensions, there have been recent attempts at reconciliation. In February, the fiery-haired prince met with His Majesty following the monarch's diagnosis, and the two have reportedly shared "warm exchanges" since despite the King "ducking" his son whenever he pops up in Britain, sources revealed.

However, the Prince of Wales remains cautious about his "black sheep" sibling's return. Reports indicate that the king-in-waiting has ruled out the possibility of Harry resuming any formal royal duties, even on a temporary basis.

As the trial approaches, senior royals and courtiers brace for potential upheaval. The California transplant's pursuit of legal action underscores his commitment to challenging media practices, but it also risks further straining his relationships with the monarchy.

The outcome of the trial and its impact on the royal family remains to be seen. For now, "the Windsors must navigate the delicate balance between public duty and private discord as they face yet another challenging chapter in their complex family dynamics," a palace source revealed.

King Charles accused of 'putting royal reputation before family' in his latest rift with the Duke of Sussex.

This follows reports that claim Harry will leave his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, one day for a permanent return home to the United Kingdom.

Veteran royal author and historian Hugo Vickers told royal editor Matt Wilkinson on "The Sun's Royal Exclusive" podcast, "I think he'll come home. I think he'll come home, and if he comes home, we must be very nice to him because he won't particularly want to. He's quite angry I think."

The presenter then wondered if Charles III would welcome his youngest child back, to which Vickers shared, "Yes, I do. The King has left the door wide open for him to do that and he was doing such a good job before and... he looked so happy."
