Prince Harry Subtly Disses the Royal Family During His Invictus Games Speech
Did Prince Harry just shade the royal family during the 2023 Invictus Games? The Duke of Sussex gave a closing speech at the sporting event, and some critics believe the veteran dissed the famous brood. When Harry left his job as a working royal, the veteran was stripped of his honorary military titles despite his decade of service within the armed forces.
Harry proudly told the crowd that the signature camouflage suit and medals associated with the military don't define them.
"A week ago I stood here and told you about the significance of being able to wear your nation's flag again," the author shared. "So many of you have told me that hit you right here. For many of you the uniform you’ve been wearing this past week will give you a new story to tell."
"And for others, it may give your old uniform new meaning," he continued. "But I’m here to remind you that after all of this, you don’t need to rely on a uniform, nor should you feel lost without one. Because everything you need is already within you."
One publication saw Harry's words as a dig at the monarchy after he was banned from wearing his uniform at Queen Elizabeth's funeral.
When the Sussexes' team was asked to respond, they denied the assertion.
"Watch the speech and you will see there is no truth to this. His words were about the competitors, no one else," a rep for Harry told the outlet. "This is nothing more than clickbait speculation."
The assumption follows the release of Harry's Heart of Invictus series in which he claimed his relatives failed to help him after Princess Diana's death.
"The biggest struggle for me was no one around me really could help. I didn't have that support structure, that network, or that expert advice to identify what was actually going on with me," the Duke of Sussex stated.
"Losing my mum at such a young age, the trauma I had I was never aware of," Harry continued. "It was never discussed, and I didn't really talk about it, and I suppressed it like most other youngsters would have done. When it all came fizzing out, I was bouncing off the walls — what is going on here? — I am now feeling everything instead of being young."
The New York Post reported on Harry's speech.
