Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, is known for its many bombshell claims about the royal family. However, there was also plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor that revealed a different side of him. In one excerpt, he describes the agony of watching his wife Meghan Markle’s love scene in Suits. Admitting it was a ‘mistake’ to Google the scene, he jokingly argued that he would need ‘electric shock therapy’ to erase the details from his mind.
Harry and Markle have been happily married since 2018. The Prince, who has no reason to be insecure, admitted his discomfort after seeing Markle get cozy with her co-star Patrick J. Adams on the series. As reported by My London, he shared, “I’d made the mistake of Googling and watching some of her love scenes online. I’d witnessed her and a castmate mauling each other in some sort of office or conference room.” He added, “It would take electric shock therapy to get those images out of my head. I didn’t need to see such things live.”
After Markle’s relationship with Harry became public, reports surfaced that restrictions were imposed on her character’s on-screen persona. In Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, author Tom Bower alleged that “the Palace intervened to regulate Meghan’s life.” According to OK! Magazine, he revealed in his book, “Scripts were thereafter forwarded to Kensington Palace for approval. Orders for changes of words were sent back from London to Los Angeles.” The Palace reportedly enforced strict rules for Markle’s final wedding scene, forbidding photos of her in a wedding dress and requiring her to wear a jacket off-camera.
Harry also revealed in his memoir that Prince William and Kate Middleton were avid Suits fans. He recalled a dinner conversation where he revealed to his brother and sister-in-law that his then-girlfriend starred in the show. To his surprise, their jaws dropped, and William exclaimed, “F–k off?” As per Page Six, Harry was taken aback by their reaction. He joked, “All this time I’d thought Willy and Kate might not welcome Meg into the family…Now I had to worry about them hounding her for an autograph.” However, when they eventually met, William reportedly cautioned Harry, saying, “She’s an American actress, after all, Harold. Anything might happen.” Harry admitted that Williams's bold remark greatly stung him.
Much to Harry's possible disappointment, Markle’s co-star Adams did attend their wedding. He also wrote a beautiful congratulatory message on X (formerly Twitter). It read, “Going to bed now and thinking a lot about the strange, surreal, and wonderful day my friend Meghan is going to have tomorrow. Meghan...we are so grateful to be here to watch you both take this monumental step together.”
