Meghan Markle made a return to Instagram earlier this year after a five-year hiatus. Since then, the Duchess of Sussex has been using the platform to promote her new business ventures while also sharing the occasional family pictures. One post from her feed particularly stands out as it appears to tease a second wedding dress.

In a tribute to her dog, Guy, Markle is seen wearing what looks like an ‘alternative’ wedding gown. Guy was a rescue pup Markle adopted from a shelter, who passed away recently on January 7, 2025. Devastated by his loss, Markle honored him with a heartwarming reel. She shared, “He was with me at 'Suits', when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom…he was with me for everything—the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.” In the reel, a picture featured the former actress in a sleek white gown, posing with Guy. It bore a square neckline, a fitted bodice, and an elegant long train that draped beautifully over her slim frame.
According to Hello! magazine, the gown, from her wedding dress fittings ahead of her fairytale nuptials to Prince Harry, is much more modern than the one she ultimately wore on her big day. With a deeper neckline, backless silhouette, and no sleeves, the dress highlighted Markle's toned arms having a more fashion-forward appeal. Known for being unapologetically herself, a strong feminist, and a liberal, Markle has never shied away from speaking her mind. The elegant white piece, hence, could have been the perfect ode to her spirit. Had she gone with it, the 'second wedding dress' would've been remembered as the boldest royal bridal gown in history.
Markle’s actual wedding gown, worn during her royal wedding to Prince Harry, was nothing short of ethereal either. Designed by Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller, the £100,000 gown embodied her 'effortless American style'. The bateau neckline and three-quarter-length sleeves kept things simple. According to the BBC, the former actress chose the gown herself, wanting a 'modest, classic' approach. The look was completed with ‘forget-me-nots’—Princess Diana’s favorite flowers—which Markle included in her bouquet. According to Town and Country magazine, a statement from Kensington Palace read, “Prince Harry handpicked several flowers yesterday from their private garden at Kensington Palace to add to the bespoke bridal bouquet designed by florist Philippa Craddock.”
Meanwhile, Markle's striking halter-neck wedding reception dress was designed by powerhouse Stella McCartney. In her first televised sit-down interview as a royal, Markle opened up about her Givenchy wedding gown. She revealed that the piece of blue fabric stitched inside was from the dress she wore on her first date with Harry.
