Meghan Markle’s new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, is set to debut on April 8 in collaboration with Lemonada Media. Markle first announced the launch of her podcast on Instagram. She penned, “I’ve been having candid conversations with amazing women who have turned dreams into realities and scaled small ideas into massively successful businesses.” The series will feature the Duchess in conversation with women entrepreneurs. As the teaser dropped recently, netizens are convinced Markle accidentally revealed more than she likely intended—that she and Prince Harry are money-hungry.
According to Nicki Swift, Markle said in the trailer, “We're diving into the highs—and the lows—and the kind of advice that turns small ideas into billion-dollar businesses.” She adds, “Through it all, I'm building a business of my own, and getting all sorts of practical advice along the way that I'm very excited to share with you.” This didn't sit well with critics back in the UK, who were of the opinion that the money talk was unbecoming of a royal.
But there's a valid reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have money on their minds. Royal expert Tom Quinn explained to the Mirror, “Harry and Megan certainly have enough money for now to carry on with their royal lifestyle in America, but the launch of the new brand suggests that they are aware that the money is disappearing fast.” Today, the couple lives in their plush £11 million house with neighbors like Katy Perry, Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah Winfrey.
Markle’s podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, includes another very telling detail that left royal watchers puzzled. Though she now prefers to go by ‘Meghan Sussex’ for her brand ventures, netizens were surprised to see her royal title missing from the podcast poster. Critics on X (formerly Twitter) mocked Markle for omitting her new name from the poster when she recently made the point of correcting her guest on her Netflix show. A person commented, “'Meghan'? I thought we had to address her as Sussex.” Another echoed, “She's doing a parody of 'Meghan Sussex' by 'Meghan Markle.'” She was also accused of plagiarizing the concept from a Spotify podcast, Confessions of a CEO. To add insult to injury, her friend and sister in law, Princess Eugenie, is set to appear in Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas’ podcast.
Despite the naysayers, Markle seems to be focused on promoting her new podcast. However, she doesn't have the best track record playing podcast host. Her previous attempt at it tanked, with the deal lasting for just 12 episodes. Archetypes, was a $20 million deal with Spotify, which fell through allegedly due to the network’s frustration with Markle’s last-minute edits.
