The Engagement Ring Resurfaces: Meghan Markle Spotted Wearing Elusive Wedding Jewel on Valentine's Day
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, wore her engagement ring for only the second time in over six months while in Vancouver on Valentine's Day. The Duchess and Prince Harry are both in the Canadian city to promote the 2025 Invictus Games, set to take place from February 8-16 of next year.
Harry and Meghan attended a film premiere in Jamaica on Tuesday, January 23, which was their first high-profile appearance as a couple in 2024 — also in attendance was the Duchess of Sussex's engagement ring. Reports surfaced last year that discussed allegations, sharing how Prince William was "worried" that the ring was apparently missing due to it having jewelry that belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales.
"Prince William's concern over the diamonds from his mother's collection featured in Meghan's engagement ring is understandable," jewelry specialist Laura Taylor told an outlet in October 2023.
She continued: "Meghan may be keeping the ring safe to avoid losing Diana’s diamonds, knowing that if they were misplaced, it would put an even bigger strain on the relationship between the two families."
Although the games are certainly a good cause for wounded service personnel, it is the ex-working royals' penchant for "freebies" and "living in the laps of luxury" that is making headlines with the Vancouver trip.
In the latter part of 2023, and within the first six weeks of this year, it has been reported that the royal rebels have taken four private jets to destinations around the world. This is in contrast to senior British royals (minus King Charles as a world leader), who are consistently taking commercial flights. Reports are also suggesting that Harry and Meghan love to take solo flights that other people fund. "They certainly don’t like to spend their own money," one insider quipped.
The Duke of Sussex claps back at criticism by claiming the private jets are taken for "security reasons," even though their use contradicts his past pleas to reduce carbon emissions. Jets are known to emit gallons upon gallons of carbon into the atmosphere. Flying commercial is one recommendation climatologists suggest to reduce air travel as much as possible as a group effort.
The couple, who quit the British monarchy four years ago, are also known to stay at "their rich pals" homes while traveling to reduce coming out of their own pockets for lavish hotels.
Insiders also stepped forward to spill how Meghan "hated" the protocol while working for the royal family that prohibited members from taking freebies while on public engagements. One palace source stated: "British royals are regal public servants and a branch of the British government, not celebrities. Meghan missed the memo on that one completely."
