Meghan Markle may have left the UK to escape the scrutiny of the British Press, but the hate continues. On International Women’s Day, the Duchess penned a heartfelt message on Instagram to celebrate her daughter Lilibet and mother Doria. However, her sweet photo of Lilibet with husband Prince Harry instead had royal watchers accusing Markle of child endangerment.

Markle, a proud feminist, celebrated the day by honoring all the women in her life. She penned, “Celebrating the strong women around us and the girls with dreams who will become women with vision. Also, thanking those who uplift us every day.” The post promptly went viral online, upsetting netizens as they noticed a glaring mistake—Lilibet was sitting on Harry’s lap on a boat without a life vest.

Given the backlash, Markle was forced to disable her Instagram comments. However, that did not stop netizens from chiming in on X (formerly Twitter). A person commented, “I went to class for getting a boat license at 12. The law is life jacket.” Another slammed, “Car seats, life jackets, and seat belts save lives. They're so worried about their own safety, don't they worry about their children drowning or being in a car accident?” Meanwhile, a fan gave the couple the benefit of the doubt. They suggested, “Perhaps the boat isn’t moving, in the dock or whatever.”

Fans also slammed Harry, accusing him of being too full of himself. A comment read, “He is a huge doofus. He can't help himself.” Another echoed, “He is more concerned about an aggressive photographer than the life of his daughter.” Meanwhile, a person pointed out the glaring Photoshop error in the blurry image. They noted, “Look at the lines around the little girl. She is photoshopped.” Another royal enthusiast hoped, "Hoping it’s photoshopped and they aren't really endangering that child’s life."

Markle can't seem to catch a break. Recently, she also stirred up controversy when she chose to include her children Archie and Lilibet for promotional pictures from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, re-launched on March 4, 2025. Given that she keeps an otherwise low profile when it comes to her children, critics have taken issue with the use of her children's photos for marketing posts. They accused her of exploiting her kids as pawns for her brand.

In one video, posted on Instagram, ahead of the launch of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, three-year-old Lilibet can be seen playing a personalized Candy Land board game with tennis star Serena Williams. Refelcting on the same, royal expert, Hugo Vickers, dubbed it a 'hypocritical' move. He said, "They've been adamant about shielding them from public attention. But then to suddenly include Lilibet in a promotional video, she doesn't even realize she's being used for this purpose. What will she think when she grows up?"
