She's here! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed baby No. 2, it was announced on Sunday, June 6 — and they named their darling daughter after Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth.
"It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world," a spokesperson for the couple said.
"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital," the statement said, adding that the new tot weighs 7lbs 11 oz and "both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home."
"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales," the statement added. "This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family."
The couple first announced the exciting news on Valentine's Day. "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child," a spokesperson said.
Misan Harriman, a close friend of Meghan and Harry, also shared a stunning photo on social media.
"Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow. Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news! #remoteshoot #shotonipad #shotbymisan," Harriman captioned the sweet picture.
In the photo, Harry is seen smiling at his wife while she lays on the ground and cradles her growing bump in a white dress.
One month after the big reveal, the former actress, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all interview, which aired on March 7.
The duo announced they were expecting a baby girl, adding that they are done having kids.
"To have any child, any one or any two, would have been amazing," Harry gushed. "But to have a boy and then a girl, I mean what more can you ask for? Now we've got our family, we got the four of us and our two dogs."
Meghan kept busy after she gave birth to son Archie in 2019, but this time around, she really wants to make sure she is able to bond with her daughter.
"It will be the summer and they want to make sure they both take their leave so they have some real quality time together once the baby arrives," an insider previously shared, adding that they will "both take some proper time off."
Fortunately, Meghan's second pregnancy "has been a little easier," an insider spilled. "Meghan is feeling much better this time around."
Prior to Meghan and Harry picking a moniker, royal expert royal expert Katie Nicholl had said it's a possibility they will name their daughter after Princess Diana.
"Maybe not in her first name, but I am sure it's very high up on the list in terms of a second Christian name, and I think that is quite simply because it would be [a way] for Harry to pay tribute to his mother. Of course, the Cambridges gave Charlotte Diana as a middle name, I don't think that precludes Harry and Meghan from doing that type of same thing. I think it's very likely to be chosen as a middle name," she said.
