Sussex Royal Vote Shelved: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have 'No Plans' to Endorse U.S. Political Candidate 'Right Now'
National Voter Registration Day was Tuesday, September 17, in the U.S. and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided not to participate in their "shrinking" staff's get out and vote letter writing campaign.
However, reports show that the royal rebels did encourage their staff in the initiative, even though neither "royal in name only" plans to endorse a candidate this November.
The Archewell website shared, "Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world."
During the American election cycle four years ago, Harry caused an uproar in Britain when he stated, "This election, I’m not able to vote in the U.S. But many of you may not have known that I've never been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life."
This was not accurate, since there is nothing in U.K. law stopping a royal family member from casting a vote. By convention, it is expected the sovereign, although legally able to, will never vote to ensure the hereditary monarchy's essential need for strict neutrality in all things political.
All other royals are more than welcome to vote in British elections if they choose. Although it is expected they would do so "privately."
Vice President Kamala Harris could become the first female American president, and sources in August said the Duchess is "excited" about stepping into the political circus thanks to this possibility.
"Royalty in Britain is a circus, yes, but American politics is a particular style of mental torture," a British aristocracy insider dished. "Even with all the negative headlines thrown at her since 2018... I don't think Meghan has what it takes to survive stateside political campaigns."
This news led royal author Robert Jobson to dish, "I think if she got involved in American politics with the title of the Duchess of Sussex, she would be eaten alive. She might think she's got what it takes to make it, but the Democrats would run a mile."
"I just think it's a dirty game and if she thinks she's been badly treated by the British press, it will be an awful lot worse if you enter the world of politics in America," he continued.
The Duchess of Sussex's so-called political aspirations in America have been met with conflicting reports ever since she voiced opinions in the 2020 presidential election. when HRH said it was "the most important election of our lifetime."
Although the Suits alum's official spokespeople claim the Duchess "has no interest" in running, analysts point out that this is a customary "nothing to see here" tactic everyone uses when speculation about their political ambitions picks up.
