Fairytale on Brink of Cancelation: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Love Affair 'Significantly Cooled' Due to 'Grievance'
It's over... or, at least, the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry fascination in America seems to be.
"Harry and Meghan just love to complain," U.S. royal commentator Lee Cohen told a publication. "And in America's largely optimistic society, that is a bad look."
"While some view the couple's openness as a brave stance against institutional rigidity, many others perceive it as ungrateful and divisive," he added. "A segment of Americans, particularly those of us who respect and admire the monarchy, find these repeated criticisms disrespectful and unbecoming. So the Sussexes' endless narrative of grievance has alienated many who once admired their candor."
Sources close to the couple reveal that this major grievance of how the media situates itself within their lives has strained their bond, which once captivated global audiences with its narrative of royal intrigue and modern love. This development comes amid ongoing pressures from both media scrutiny and their strained ties with the British royal family.
The couple, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, have been navigating a new life filled with public appearances, media projects, and philanthropic efforts through their Archewell Foundation. Despite these endeavors, the couple's personal relationship has reportedly "been tested by the immense pressure and criticism" they face.
It doesn't help that most Americans "adore the pomp and splendor of the monarchy, whereas most of us here in Britain find it to be a traffic nuisance," a palace insider bitingly shared. "The Sussexes are an antithesis to that, so many people in the states probably dislike them for that alone [laughs]."
Although American popularity polls of the Duke and Duchess date back to 2023, a recent YouGov survey in Britain revealed... well, not-so-surprising results. Harry scored 31 percent favorability compared to his elder brother Prince William's whopping 73 percent. Kate is the kingdom's most popular senior Crown representative, with 76 percent favorability. King Charles and Queen Camilla settled into the middle of the ranking with 63 and 50 percent favorability, respectively.
Meghan was the second-worst, rated at 26 percent, right above the disgraced Prince Andrew at the bottom with 6 percent.
"You can imagine that if another American poll of the royals is conducted this year, Harry and Meghan will score embarrassing results — it's just inevitable, Americans are sick of them," a royal insider spilled, whose prediction is matched by other royal analysts as well.
"Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles," royal author and historian Tom Quinn pointedly stated. "Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the U.K."
Meghan has not set foot in Britain since Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral in late September 2022.
