Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow, both actresses with lifestyle brands, have often been pitted against each other. The Duchess's As Ever is new to the lifestyle space compared to Paltrow’s Goop, which has been around since 2008. Rumors of a feud were particularly rife when Paltrow recently, allegedly, poked fun at Markle’s cooking style on Instagram. However, it turns out netizens were wrong as Markle made a surprise cameo on Paltrow’s Instagram, eating a slice of pie and squashing rumors of a ‘beef’ once and for all.
Paltrow took to her Instagram stories on March 25 to take part in a fan Q&A session. One of her followers boldly asked, “Are you comprehending the Meghan Markle beef that social media says you two have?” The actress answered, “I genuinely do not understand this at all, whatsoever." Panning the camera, she cheekily added, "Do you understand this?” showing Markle, who sat comfortably next to her at the kitchen table, devouring a slice of pie. Markle echoed that she has no idea about the feud either.
Fans went berserk after the video of the two women made the rounds on social media. On X (formerly Twitter), a netizen applauded, “Well played Gwyneth Paltrow and Meghan Markle 👏🏽. We love to see the lies of the British Media shut down ☕️.” Another echoed, “Meghan Sussex and Gwyneth Paltrow chilling together ❤️😎. Women supporting women ❤️.” In a similar vein, a person chimed, “Meghan Sussex and Gwyneth Paltrow have spoken, or shall I say, they're trolling 🤭🤣😂.” Others were not too thrilled and threatened to unfollow Paltrow on Instagram over her friendship with Markle.
Markle recently faced relentless backlash for allegedly copying Paltrow’s concept. As per Page Six, as Paltrow’s March 25 Instagram post showed her makeup-free, making a ‘clean’ breakfast in striped pajamas, royal watchers were convinced it was a dig at Markle's recipes, which they claimed was more about aesthetics. It didn't help that her video was set to the tune of Natalie Cole’s This Will Be, which is reportedly the same track used in the promotional material for Markle’s series. She also appeared to kiss her dog, something that the Duchess does on her Netflix cooking show.
Paltrow has also addressed her rumored feud with Markle in an interview with Vanity Fair. When asked about their competition and supposed rivalry by the interviewer, she answered, “I mean, I have met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all…I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes…Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.” Despite her denial, netizens were still sure the Iron Man actress despised Markle, and so she chose to put the rumors to bed once and for all.
