Failure to Relaunch: Meghan Markle's Big Hollywood Comeback Is 'Not Going to Plan' Thanks to Omid Scobie
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was on track to relaunch a Hollywood comeback until a certain book by her former collaborator Omid Scobie destroyed her momentum. The "racism controversy" surrounding Endgame may have "tarnished her reputation and could potentially damage the reputation of her agency," culture expert Nick Ede told an outlet.
The former Suits star signed with WME talent agency in April, and before Scobie's sequel to Finding Freedom hit shelves last week, analysts claimed that the prestigious agency was "working overtime" to sell Meghan in Tinseltown. Royal experts pointed out that her brand was already damaged thanks to fiercely divided opinions about her, which is a possible reason there were months of silence after the signing. But now, all bets seem to be off that her agent, Ari Emanuel, can rework her image effectively.
"The book written by Omid Scobie is potentially a career incendiary device for Meghan. Just as Harry's own goal of a book has proved for him, the new book by Scobie unfortunately has fueled a fire that many had thought would die down. The issue for a huge Hollywood agent is that they will find it hard to navigate the career of Meghan, fearing that more will come out over time and that, with court cases looming from her sister and potentially her father, she has tarnished her reputation and could potentially damage the reputation of her agency," Ede added.
He continued: "Meghan, in the right hands, is a superpower — the world's most famous woman — and on paper, she could make millions for herself and for whoever represents her. But she's proving to be too hot to handle, and even though she hasn't said anything about the book, she's guilty by association, and this is damaging for her and others as she plots her next career move."
Neither Meghan nor Prince Harry has commented on the "translation error" in the Dutch edition of the book that named King Charles III and Catherine, Princess of Wales, as royals who questioned Prince Archie's potential complexion. Those senior royals have also remained mum about the claims against them, which is characteristic of the monarchy when it comes to controversial topics.
The tome's effect on Meghan's public profile is also being analyzed by other experts, who share Ede's dire predictions for the future of her career.
"They [WME] said they were 'horrified,' [and] that can't just be about the two names that were mentioned, it must be about their client, Meghan. It seems to me that they will think very carefully about what they do next. I have never heard such a well-known agency be clear about how they feel," royal author Angela Levin dished.
