The 'Bernie Sanders of Celebrities': Meghan Markle Has 'Gotten Rich Off Stupid People'
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has launched a new lifestyle brand to compete with Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop, called American Riviera Orchard. This has led one comic to label her "the Bernie Sanders of celebrities."
"Scientists actually have a word for those who buy Meghan Markle's brands — they're called idiots," Fox News Saturday Night host Jimmy Failla told host Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle.
"American Riviera Orchard?" Failla jokingly asked. "It sounds like an expensive candle that will upset my dog when he smells it."
After further adding that the Suits star's brand sounded "pretentious," Failla observed how a part of him "respected" the actress turned royal because she has "gotten rich off stupid people."
After comparing her to Sanders but only for "Hollywood elites," the comedian then shared how he feels Meghan 'is making money [by] playing some sort of a victim."
This insight follows reports that suggest the Duchess and Prince Harry reportedly want to "relaunch the Sussex brand" in Britain and are said to be seeking PR representation in King Charles III's kingdom.
"I suspect it's also got something to do with the big plans that we're hearing about that Meghan is going to launch this big commercial project," royal expert Rebecca English told an outlet. "I presume this commercial project will have some sort of residence in this country."
A recent poll conducted by The Evening Standard in Britain found that Meghan scored just 7 percent in a ranking of the royals, which was right under Harry with 11 percent. Despite this, the former actress' new brand has already amassed over 500,000 Instagram followers in under a week and is said to eventually tie in with a Netflix cooking show. Although unpopular in the country, one palace insider dished that the culinary show's numbers could take off in Britain.
"Never underestimate them. Nobody wholly likes them in this nation, but millions will tune in out of curiosity," they shared.
The source further added: "Millions more will hate-watch the venture just so they can tear it apart online and at the water cooler the next day. Either way, Harry and Meghan win because it's all about ratings."
Another expert feels that if the pair truly want to revitalize themselves in the United Kingdom, it should be through charitable endeavors — not celebrity pursuits.
"Harry and Meghan need to stay away from the Hollywood limelight and avoid the British celebrity circuit," PR expert Carla Speight dished. "They need to focus on the kind of humanitarian work that seems to get overshadowed by all the tabloid gossip and drama that is always revolving around them."
She also feels that if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can no longer perform royal-backed charity work, they should still carry on with these avenues privately.
