Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow both now have lifestyle brands. Paltrow, who launched Goop in 2008, has been compared with Markle since the latter re-launched As Ever earlier this year. Paltrow, who is allegedly not a fan of the Duchess, recently posted an Instagram video making a 'cleaner' breakfast. Royal fans quickly noticed its resemblance to Markle’s cooking show, With Love, Meghan. The comments section soon blew up as netizens noted the subtle shade.
As reported by Page Six, Paltrow posted a weekend Instagram video making breakfast in striped pajamas—a spread of biscuits, eggs, bacon, and jam. But it was her makeup-free natural look and shady caption about a 'cleaner' breakfast that piqued the interest of royal watchers who were convinced it was a dig at Markle’s new Netflix cooking show. Many pointed out that Paltrow’s video was set to the tune of Natalie Cole’s This Will Be, which happens to be the same track used in the promotional material for Markle’s series.
As Paltrow's cooking video made the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), netizens applauded Paltrow for being the ‘genuine’ one. A person commented, “I don't care for Gwyneth Paltrow, but I am loving this well-done troll of Meghan Markle!” Another netizen pointed out the authenticity of Paltrow’s video as compared to some of Markle’s. “And barefoot, with a dog that is not dead, and taking things from an oven that is actually hot. And not a dried flower petal in sight!” they said. In a similar vein, one chimed, “Look at the caption. My cleaner take on a classic breakfast...indicating that 'someone else's' wasn't clean.” A comment also read, “She is the real deal.”
As the video video went viral and comments poured in, a person asked, “Is that the promo song from Markle’s show?? 😂👌🏻” A fan decided to do some fact-checking for the haters and argued, “Why does everyone keep saying it's the same song? Paltrow used 'Everlasting Love'...Meghan's promo used 'Do you believe in magic.'”
Despite netizens accusing Paltrow of throwing major shade at Markle, the actress has been relatively coy about her competitor. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she out rightly denied any beef between her and the Suits actress. “I mean, I have met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all…I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes…Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try,” she said when asked about their supposed competition. Meanwhile, Markle has also come under fire for copying Pamela Anderson’s cooking series, Pamela's Cooking With Love. The Duchess has chosen not to comment publicly on the plagiarism allegations.
