'Rebrand Queen' No More? Meghan Markle's 'Endless Brand Flops' Sparks Gossip of 'Hoped for' Royal Return as Her Ultimate PR Lifeline
Meghan Markle's series of "brand flops" since leaving the British royal family in early 2020 has one expert claiming the Duchess could be hoping for a royal "rebrand."
King Charles III's private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, a long-reported Prince Harry and Meghan critic, could be set to retire, which author Tina Brown feels could bring on a reunion between Charles and Harry.
The former Editor-in-Chief of Vanity Fair also went so far as to suggest, "The Crown needs Harry," but the move could also work out for the Duchess of Sussex as well.
This "could also represent a great face-saver for Meghan who must realize by now that the dull demands of second-division royalty are less onerous than grinding out serial rebranding flops," Brown added.
The California Duchess' much-hyped American Rivera Orchard brand launch in March "fizzled out quickly," which led to rumors she may be "scrambling" to return to the royal life she threw away.
However, conflicting reports suggest Meghan will not return to Britain because she doesn't like the idea of paying homage to Kate, Princess of Wales.
"What, and have Meghan Markle curtsying to Kate Middleton?" acclaimed royal author Andrew Morton dished. "I don’t think so. I don’t see that as a runner. They’ve got their own lives in California."
"They’ve got their own set, they’ve got their own influence, and they’ve got their own companies," the biographer added when highlighting Meghan and Harry's lives in California.
Although Kate technically outranks Meghan in the royal hierarchy, she would only currently be required to curtsy to her sister-in-law if Prince William was next to her. For royal spouses not born of royal blood, their rank is through their husband and his particular rank in the monarchy. William is the highest-ranking British royal behind his father, Charles III, and his stepmother, Queen Camilla.
However, when William accedes to the throne and Kate immediately becomes his Queen Consort, Meghan would be expected to curtsy to her with or without Catherine's husband in attendance. A "majesty" always outranks a "royal highness," since only a King or Queen can be styled as His/Her Majesty.
This insight comes amid reports revealing how the Duchess of Sussex did not accompany her husband on his recent trips to NYC, London and Africa, as rumors continue to build that the royal rebels are seeking separate professional lives.
Meghan has reportedly not returned to the United Kingdom since Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral in September 2022. The Duchess allegedly spoke with her father-in-law via video in November 2023 for his 75th birthday.
Although many top royal experts feel that a Sussex reunion is "impossible," there are a scant few who hope that the California celebrity royals can rejoin the monarchy of their titles "someday."
