Meghan Markle has an impeccable fashion sense, but that hasn’t stopped her from copying some of her mother-in-law, Princess Diana’s, looks, or her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton's. During her recent appearance in New York City, she was spotted wearing a houndstooth skirt strikingly similar to one worn by Diana. The skirt also resembled an outfit donned by Middleton in 2023.

As reported by the Daily Express, when Markle stepped out to attend the Broadway revival of Gypsy, she wore the long-sleeved Veronica Beard shirt and complemented it with a Carolina Herrera skirt. Meanwhile, Diana had worn hers when she attended Princess Eugenie’s christening in 1990. For her part, she smartly paired it with a red Moschino houndstooth blazer. Middleton has also embraced the legacy of the late royal, sporting the pattern in several public appearances. She went for a more colorful version of the same when she wore a red Catherine Walker coat to a rugby match in 2023.
Page Six reports that the pattern was one of Diana’s favorite fashion choices. In 1987, she had stepped out in a striking houndstooth blazer in Munich with an oversized flat-brimmed hat. She also wore a skirt with the pattern at a 1991 visit to Toronto. The late Princess, on her part, could have taken fashion inspiration from the late Queen Elizabeth II. The former monarch wore a houndstooth skirt during a visit to Turkey in 1971. She also wore a coat featuring the print that same year.
Markle has copied the late Princess Diana’s fashion choices on numerous other occasions. On Instagram, she recently featured in a Northwestern t-shirt, identical to the one Diana wore in 1996. The late Princess was gifted the t-shirt from the university in 1995, after she raised funds for its cancer center. In a surprising twist of events, Markle is said to have graduated from the same university in 2003. She also channeled Diana’s love for pantsuits when she donned a black Givanchy ensemble during a visit to Ireland. She also wore a beautiful emerald green Emilia Wickstead dress, similar to what the late Princess wore during her first pregnancy.
The Duchess of Sussex also imitated Diana and Middleton’s ‘Sloane Ranger’ look during her recent appearance for the Invictus Games. According to Hello! magazine, Middleton embraced the ‘Sloane’ fashion trend when she rocked a Smythe blazer with chic ankle boots during a visit to PACT. Diana, on her part, featured in Sloane-style when she wore a grey blazer during a 1985 visit to a children’s hospital. Speaking of Diana’s fashion choices, late fashion designer Virgil Abloh told British Vogue, “She was a strong individual, who despite her position, had her own personal taste and it came out through the clothes…very out of the way from what she was supposed to wear. It’s an inspiration.”
