Prince Andrew made a surprise appearance at the royal family’s Easter service, sparking much debate as he has often been cast aside from official events. Analyzing footage from the same, a lip reader offered rare insights into some of the conversations that transpired. Andrew was spotted having a conversation with his brother-in-law, Sir Tim Laurence, as royal guests waited for the arrival of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.
Body language expert Judi James noted Andrew’s 'cocky arrogance' during what she dubbed was an awkwardly tense chat. Though his exact words weren’t clear, lip reader Jeremy Freeman claimed that Andrew did name-drop Prince William and Kate Middleton, as reported by The Mirror. The conversation seemed to center around seating arrangements. William and Middleton were absent from the event, choosing instead to spend the weekend with their kids. As reported by Tyla, James said, "Prince Andrew's body language made this look like his debutante's coming out ball as he performed a kind royal quick-step to appear back in the role of second son to the late Queen.”
James pointed out that Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, also exuded royal confidence as she waved to the crowd and chatted with the people gathered. Andrew waited for other members of the royal family to settle down before making a very dramatic entry from the Chapel doorway, where he was probably waiting. James added, "Andrew's body language signals were all about a kind of cocky arrogance here. With his jacket undone, he positioned himself in the gap in the middle of the group where he stood with his legs splayed in a pose of confidence.”
She continued, "He crossed one arm over his belly, and his free hand was used to show a stabbing, pointing index finger as he chatted with a rather awkward-looking Commander Tim. He evaporated back into the gloom of the porch once Charles arrived.” Andrew attended the Easter service with Ferguson, Princess Anne, and Laurence. The event was also attended by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and their son.
Interestingly, the last royal gathering Andrew was spotted at was also Easter, in 2024. This may be because the Easter service is more of a private family gathering than a formal royal event. In December last year, however, Andrew skipped the royal family’s Christmas get-together at Sandringham. He also didn't attend the pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace. His absence was seen as something to do with his and Charles' feud over vacating the Royal Lodge in Windsor, as reported by the Daily Express. Andrew, today, has no official duties and isn't allowed to use the 'His Royal Highness' title, much like the Sussexes.
