'Too Busy' for 'Nonsense': King Charles 'Doesn’t Dwell' on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Rift Thanks to Affairs of State
Although concerned, King Charles III, as the U.K.'s head of state and the Head of the Commonwealth, reportedly doesn't have time to obsess over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drama.
"Relations are as bad as they have ever been," a royal source told a publication. "Nothing has been resolved. But Charles does not spend a great deal of time dwelling on the matter because he is so busy."
This insight comes amid revelations that the monarch did, in fact, invite his youngest son to stay in a royal residence during the Duke's quick stop in Britain on May 8.
"All the narrative from the moment he [Harry] touched down and we got that statement from Harry's spokesperson saying it's not possible for Harry to see his father, his father is too busy, he completely understands," royal reporter Roya Nikkhah dished on a recent episode of "The Royals with Roya and Kate" podcast. "That set the mood music for the whole week that Harry had said Pa is too busy to see me."
"I just thought something didn't feel quite right about this, so I dug away and dug away a bit deeper and found out that actually, Harry had asked if he could stay and Charles had said yes, come and stay son," she added. "You come and stay in a royal residence, you are near where I am so it's going to be much easier for me to see you given what's going on with my diary and your diary."
The royal editor further revealed: "And that turned everything on its head because the narrative from Harry that I wanted to see my father but he is too busy to see me, actually the reality was Charles said yes please do come and stay in a royal gaff and that would make it much easier for me to see each other."
Many analysts and insiders also feel that the King's reluctance to fully embrace Harry and Meghan has "a lot" to do with his eldest son and heir Prince William.
"If William was prepared to reconcile with Harry it would certainly make things easier, but that's not the whole story," a second royal source observed. "The King was particularly hurt by what Harry said about Camilla."
It has been reported that the Prince of Wales actually "hates" his younger brother after the fiery-haired Duke's accusations against him in the 2023 memoir, Spare. The future king reportedly wished to meet with Harry shortly before the book was published on January 10 of that year, but the Montecito royal refused. William has allegedly "not uttered a word" to Harry since the tome hit shelves and news headlines.
