A 'Desperate' Grandfather: King Charles Is Determined to Have Relationship With 5-Year-Old Prince Archie Despite Meghan Markle Getting in the Way
Prince Archie turned five on Monday, May 6, and King Charles III is said to be "desperate" to have a relationship with his grandson and Princess Lilibet Diana. His Majesty is said to be "worried' About Meghan Markle, whenever it comes to gift choices for his grandkids.
"King Charles and his team are desperately worried that whatever the king sends to his grandson may be misinterpreted by Harry and Meghan," royal author Tom Quinn dished.
"There has even been talk that he will send one of his own watercolor paintings to Archie as a present as Meghan loves homemade gifts and dislikes extravagant expensive presents," Quinn added when discussing the monarch's gift ideas for Archie's fifth birthday on Monday, May 6.
The head of state is also said to be upset with his estranged son and daughter-in-law since they keep insisting he speak to his grandkids via video, which he dislikes. "Charles been asking about video calling, but according to his aides, he’s uncomfortable with the idea," Quinn pointed out. "If he makes an ordinary telephone call to Harry, it means he can have a quick word with Archie without the need to talk to Meghan, a prospect that fills him with dread."
Prince Harry landed in the U.K. on Tuesday, May 7, as he will attend the 10th anniversary celebration of his Invictus Games at St Paul's Cathedral in London.
Prince Archie memorably turned four on the same date as his grandfather's coronation, May 6, of last year. The Duchess of Sussex stayed in Montecito with both children while the Duke of Sussex attended the grand event at Westminster Abbey. It is believed that the Sussex kids have not been in the U.K. since June 2022, when the late Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Platinum Jubilee.
This follows reports suggesting that although Archie and Lilibet live their lives largely behind closed doors, the royal Sussex grandchildren, who are being raised in California, could potentially help end the Wales/Sussex rift.
"As the children get older, they get more curious about their family — why haven't I met my cousins? Why haven't I met my uncle and his wife?" royal expert Helena Chard dished.
"And hopefully it will be the children that mend the relationship because obviously, they all want to see each other," she stated. "It will be really, really sad for that not to happen. In fact, it will sort of be like a damaged generation, if something doesn't work out. But hopefully, King Charles will also give a little push."
Chard continued: "I don't think he [Prince Harry] will meet King Charles. It's a fairly flying visit. Prince Harry is obviously coming over for the Invictus Games service of Thanksgiving. That's one of the things we can applaud him for, the sporting event. And he'll be doing a reading as well."
Daily Mirror reported on Quinn's remarks.
