'Horrendous and Embarrassing': Kate Middleton's Uncle Roasted for 'Dishing Family Secrets' on Reality Show
Princess Kate's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, is "embarrassing the British royal family," according to PR experts analyzing the latest season of Celebrity Big Brother in the U.K.
"The fact is, his niece is the Princess of Wales," PR expert Jonathan Shalit shared with GBN broadcaster Patrick Christys. "He should just keep out [of] the limelight and keep his life private," Shalit added.
"To be embarrassing his family in this way, it's horrendous. If we're honest, most of us have got an embarrassing member of our family, but we're not the future King or Queen, so it's a bit different," the PR analyst continued.
Christys picked up on Shalit's point by stating: "You have to look at the situation that's going on at the moment. The King is recovering from cancer. Camilla's knackered to the point where she's going to have to take a break. William is obviously bang up against it. Kate, I mean, goddess only knows exactly what's going on with Kate."
He continued: "And ITV think it's all right to plunk in the old uncle into the middle of that, who's probably going to go absolutely rogue at some point and maybe dish all the family secrets."
Shalit also highlighted how the executives at the series' network, ITV, are likely thinking about ratings or feelings.
"I don't think they're sitting there thinking, at the highest level, about the implications," he observed. "The only implication they're thinking of is creating a cast that's of interest. The pressure that family is directly under as a private family, let alone as a royal family, is immense. So having the brother on national television, embarrassing the family the way he is, is a pretty horrific thing to do, to do to your own family."
On the Wednesday, March 6, episode of the popular reality show, Goldsmith was speaking with fellow contestant and former TV personality Fern Britton, who shared with him: "My feeling is that William must be furious now to have suddenly the weight of it all on his head and his shoulders."
Carole Middleton's brother responded: "His father, wife, [and] brother. While they try and reshape the royal family and modernize it. I think he's done an amazing job in that horrible situation. And he's always seemed that he has had an olive branch open at any time for Harry to come back and be part of the gang. I desperately feel that that's the case. It's difficult to get over."
Britton then added how it was "heartbreaking to see two beloved sons warring that way."
Goldsmith replied: "I genuinely think that they should take the titles away," seemingly referring to Harry and Meghan's Sussex titles.
