In November 2023, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a video from their Bahamas trip, offering a rare peek into an unforgettable experience they shared. In the video, the two can be seen diving into the sea alongside Coral Vita, the 2021 Earthshot Prize winner. Dressed in scuba gear, they snorkel among the stunning reefs and plant new coral. William chose a rash vest paired with blue swim trunks, while Middleton wore a black wetsuit with cropped sleeves and shorts. However, what caught the attention of fans was not their philanthropic endeavors or the blue waters, rather Middleton's decisions to wear her iconic diamond and sapphire engagement ring on her underwater adventure.

On YouTube, a royal enthusiast penned, "Such a FANTASTIC TEAM👏 and not a word about what they're wearing 😁 though...It appears that Kate wore her engagement ring💍😳." Another echoed, "Amazing work! I hope we can prevent the complete collapse of coral reefs. I will say, you wouldn’t catch me snorkeling with such an iconic ring on my finger! 😂💖." One X (formerly Twitter) a fan echoed, "Mad respect to Princess Catherine for diving with the rings on. I don't think I could do that for fear of them slipping off my finger."
However, one reasoned, "I know jewelry very well, and she definitely wears a replica of her rings on certain occasions. Especially after there was an incident in 2011 of someone grabbing her left hand and trying to slip the engagement ring off in Canada during a walk about." Others praised Middleton's fitness and love for sports. A person gushed, "Another sport to add to her string of athletic accomplishments! Deep sea diving. Awesome, Princess of Wales. Nothing she cannot do. Fearless woman."
The ring in question originally belonged to William's mother, Princess Diana. As reported by Hello! magazine, William kept the famous piece of jewelry, carrying it around in his rucksack for three weeks, before proposing to Middleton with it in Kenya, in 2010.
As for the video, it was shot during the couple's week-long Caribbean trip in March 2022. Reflecting on the experience, William highlighted the significance of the Earthshot Prize— something he launched in 2020. He emphasized the urgency of actively working toward a healthier, more sustainable world, as reported by the Daily Express. He stressed, "What we do in these next 10 years will impact the planet for the next thousand." He added, "Being able to see the good coral and the degraded coral, being able to understand the difference...I think that was really fascinating for me to kind of finally understand."
