Kate Middleton's Royal Halloween: Princess of Wales Takes a Break for Some Spooky Fun With Out-of-School Wales Kids and Cousins
For the most part, British royals do not celebrate Halloween, but Catherine, Princess of Wales, is said to enjoy decorating and celebrating the spooky holiday with Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.
The Wales kids are on a two-week break from school set to end on Monday, November 4, which the princess intends to make "extra special" this year after months of battling cancer.
The children could have some help ringing in the spooky season from their grandmother, Carole Middleton, who also adores the frightful day.
"Halloween is an Autumn highlight for me," she wrote on her Instagram. "I can still remember the fun and frights from my own childhood; the chance to dress up, decorate pumpkins and go trick-or-treating!"
Reports also show that George, Charlotte and Louis, will likely spend most of the holiday with their cousins on both sides of their family.
Spooky season within the British monarchy is said to be more of a muted affair with select senior and junior royals celebrating in private.
The Wales kids' paternal grandmother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, was known to enjoy Halloween, particularly when it came to her sons, Princes William and Harry. She would dress them up in costumes and even take them trick-or-treating when they were young. She reportedly enjoyed making the holiday fun for them, just like any other mother.
Harry has been known to enjoy All Hallows' Eve, especially during his time living in California. He and Meghan Markle reportedly spent a quiet Halloween together during the early days of their relationship, which allowed them to remain under the radar before their romance went public. After moving to the U.S., the couple likely enjoys celebrating the holiday with their children, Archie and Lilibet, and their maternal grandmother, Doria Ragland.
While there may not be public Halloween parties within the royal court, some of the palaces and residences, such as Windsor Castle, sometimes host Halloween-themed events for the public. These include ghost tours and spooky activities, particularly for children, to bring a touch of Halloween spirit to these historic settings.
It has also been reported that the late Queen Elizabeth II, who ran Windsor Castle longer than any other British monarch, could be haunting the ancient fortress.
"I'm not a believer in anything beyond the grave, but I don’t think there’s any arguing with these images," a castle visitor spilled. "I am fully aware people will say this could be a trick of the lens or a light flash or whatever, but I’ve looked into it and it’s highly unlikely the form in my image is any of that. It’s clearly the Queen’s spirit, and she looks so unsettled — you can tell by the expression on her 'face.' She looks like she’s in limbo and lost."
