Kate Middleton and Prince William's Recent Podcast Appearance Was 'Very Far Removed' From Meghan Markle's 'Formal' Depiction of Them
Kate Middleton and Prince William are showing their true colors, and they appear different than what Meghan Markle described. The Duchess of Sussex was vocal about her discomfort after meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales, but their recent podcast appearance on "The Good, The Bad & The Rugby" showed a different side to the royals.
During Meghan and Prince Harry's 2021 tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey and their docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the Suits star painted her brother and sister-in-law as rigid, but royal expert Jennie Bond thinks the actress misjudged them. The Wales were guests on the podcast, which is hosted by the Princess Royal's son-in-law, Mike Tindall, alongside Princess Anne.
"The picture we got from this podcast was of a family very far removed from the one described by Meghan when she complained about how formal and standoffish she found them," the expert told an outlet. "They are a family where trust is everything. And it obviously takes a certain amount of time to build up trust. If that surprised Meghan, then she was being naive."
One of William's greatest concerns with Harry and Meghan's romance was the speed of their courtship since William dated Kate for a decade before saying "I do." Tindall and Zara Tindall similarly went out for five years before the rugby star popped the question. For members marrying into The Firm, it takes a significant amount of time before their chosen partner can join the famous family.
Bond pointed out that the lack of connection between Meghan and Harry's relatives created a lack of ease for the future king and queen.
In Harry & Meghan, the Northwestern alum vocalized how shocked she was to meet Kate and William, and she alluded to the introduction being somewhat of a cultural clash.
"I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside," Meghan said. "That there is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and 'phew I can relax now' but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me."
