The Crown Will Endure: Kate Middleton and Prince William Will Ensure the 'Continuity' of the Monarchy
Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, are only king and queen-in-waiting, but both are reportedly dedicated to ensuring the British monarchy's survival throughout the 21st century.
"As any tribe or dynasty knows, a show of unity, continuity, and strength is vital once it loses a leader. The royals are making exactly the right 'survival' statement here, following the death of the Queen," body language analyst Judi James told an outlet when studying a 2022 photograph of the royal family.
"Charles has included his direct heir and wife Catherine in the line-up to signal the continuity, and the fact they are in one line of four, rather than with William and Catherine placed slightly behind Charles, suggests a sense of 'I've got your back' teamwork," she added.
"William's pose, with his hands clasped in front of his torso, suggests a dutiful approach to his father, while Catherine places an arm around her husband’s back to signal ongoing support."
Meanwhile, the photograph, which was taken at Buckingham Palace on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral, displays a rather cautious-looking King Charles III after 10 days as monarch.
"This looks like a forming up under potential attack, particularly from the direction of the US, and Charles’s unusual PDA of placing an arm around Camilla’s back, mirroring her arm around his, could be seen as a message in the same direction," Judi observed.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are merely the support system for the current King and Queen, however, the millennial royals are hard at work behind the scenes to set the tone for William and Prince George's future reigns.
The next Queen Consort is said to be "calling the shots" in the institution and is something of the CEO of the Wales Household, much like Queen Mary was during King George V's reign. While the Prince of Wales is focusing heavily on the content of his initiatives while heir to the throne, Kate is reportedly shaping the tone of how the Crown will perform the day her husband accedes to it.
"Kate is in such an incredible position because it all rests on her really, the future rests on Kate, and that’s an enormous responsibility because if she decided that she didn’t want to be a part of her marriage any more then I think the royal family would collapse," Paul Burrell, the former butler to Diana, Princess of Wales, dished.
"Everything is pinned up by Kate, the future is underpinned by Catherine Middleton, and that’s incredible. Back in my day, the future seemed to be pinned on Diana Spencer, our future queen."
Now we’re looking at another Princess of Wales who is in the same role that Diana had, married to a Prince of Wales, and the future of the monarchy is down to her. It’s not an enviable position to be in," Paul concluded.
