Frogmore Cottage Jealousy: Prince Harry 'Upset' Over King Charles' Move to Shove Disgraced Prince Andrew in Sussex-Funded Property
Harry, Duke of Sussex, is not pleased with King Charles III's decision to place Andrew, Duke of York, in Frogmore Cottage. The fiery-haired prince and Meghan Markle were evicted from the property by the King last summer, and this followed the Duke paying back the taxpayer-funded renovations on the home.
"However deep the rift with his father and brother, Harry always had hopes that he and Meghan might eventually be allowed to re-establish Frogmore Cottage at Windsor as their U.K. base," royal scribe Tom Quinn shared. "He will be deeply upset at the prospect of his uncle Prince Andrew moving into Frogmore — a very real prospect as King Charles insists that Andrew cannot continue to live at Royal Lodge, the 30-room mansion on the Windsor estate where Andrew has lived for decades."
The King and the Duke of York are currently embroiled in a feud over Andrew's opulent home, Royal Lodge, near Windsor Castle. Despite the former Jeffrey Epstein pal's having lived in the compound since 2003, the monarch is determined to "force him out" as he wants the spread for Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were gifted the 8-bedroom Frogmore Cottage by the late Queen Elizabeth II as a country home following their May 2018 nuptials. The ex-actress reportedly "despised" the 19th-century dwelling and felt "tricked" by somehow thinking she and Harry were getting the far grander Frogmore House nearby. After 2020's "Megxit," the pair vacated the property after British taxpayers footed a reported 4 million pound renovation of the cottage.
When asked how the pair would respond when finding out an accused s----- predator would be moving into the house, royal author Gareth Russell told an outlet: "It's hard to know how the Sussexes would react. It was a different set of circumstances in that they had an alternative home they could fund in Montecito. The Duke of York will be staying in Britain and isn't capable of funding an alternative home."
As for the Duchess of Sussex' take on the "modest" royal property, she experienced some initial confusion when she was told that Elizabeth II was gifting the duo a country home, which is royal custom for newly-married senior royals.
"And there were a few reports at the time that Meghan actually thought she was moving into Frogmore House, which is a much grander property," royal expert Charlotte Griffiths told an outlet in April. "She sort of felt a bit sort of tricked or confused and hadn't quite realized it was actually a cottage which is only a mere eight bedrooms."
Daily Express reported on Quinn's remarks.
