Prince Harry, who has been embroiled in a legal battle for security against the UK for years, arrived in London on April 8 to attend his court appeal hearing. Despite being home, he yet again did not visit his father, King Charles. Royal author Robert Hardman revealed that the King chose not to meet his son to avoid it causing any ‘legal jeopardy’ given Harry's ongoing court proceedings.
Harry and Charles have had a strained relationship after the former’s exit from the royal family. Since then, he has only seen his father during the late Queen’s funeral, his coronation, and following Charles' cancer diagnosis. As reported by the Daily Express, Hardman explained, “There is legal jeopardy which is the simple fact that here you have the son of the King suing the King's ministers in the King's court and that just creates all sorts of legal problems.” He added, "It would only need Harry to have a conversation with his father and then afterwards let slip, 'Oh, my dad said this or my dad said that' and as we know, he does repeat conversations quite readily."
There also appears to be another reason as to why the King could not meet Harry in London. As reported by Hello! magazine, Charles landed in the British capital at 10:30 am on a Sunday for a scheduled cancer treatment, therefore, it was ‘not possible’ for Harry to meet with him. The Duke didn't land in the UK until 3:30 pm. He arrived in London just hours before Charles and Queen Consort Camilla left for Italy for a state visit. Their last reported meeting with each other was in February 2024, after Harry learned about his father’s diagnosis.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward believes that the King is ‘disappointed’ over Harry's behavior, but he still has ‘sympathy for him.’ As per Hello! magazine, she explained, “I think his father's annoyed with him and disappointed with him, but the fallout is really with William.” She added, “Charles just doesn't like any kind of moral confrontation…I would have thought he's just sort of keeping in the background of the whole thing, but I don't think he's had a screaming row with Harry.”
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich also told Fox News, “[He] still misses his ‘darling boy’ and would like to see more of Prince Harry. After the release of [his memoir] Spare and the Netflix series…it’s Prince William who adamantly refuses to even speak to his brother.” In July 2024, it was reported that the Prince of Wales had imposed an ‘absolute ban’ on his younger brother ever returning as a working royal.
