Comedian and actress Amy Schumer recently updated fans about her experience with weight-loss medication while also making a swipe at Meghan Markle. Schumer is among the many people who have criticized Markle and her Netflix show With Love, Meghan. Markle’s eight-part lifestyle show has received major backlash for being out of touch with reality and for projecting 'fake perfection'. The backlash began with Markle correcting her friend Mindy Kaling for not addressing her as 'Meghan Sussex.' Amused, Schumer poked fun at the former Suits star in an Instagram video.
Schumer's jab at Markle came at the end of her monologue, which touched on Mounjaro, peri-menopause, and her increasing sex drive. As reported by The Independent, she said, "I’m not gonna talk any s**t, I’m not gonna stir the pot, but why don’t we have to call Kate Middleton 'Kate of Wales'?" With a playful glance at the camera, she raised her hands in mock surprise.
Markle, on her new Netflix show, had informed Kaling she dropped her old surname in light of what 'Sussex' means to her now as a mother of two. As reported by Tyla, Kaling said, "I don't think anyone in the world knows that Meghan Markle has eaten Jack In The Box and loves it." Upon hearing this, the Duchess interjected, "It's so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I'm Sussex now. You have kids, and you go, 'No, I share my name with my children.' I didn't know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, 'This is OUR family name. Our little family name.'" Following backlash, Kaling later defended Markle. She also praised Markle's recipes and reflected on her time on the show, calling it one of the most glamorous events of her life.
Queen Elizabeth II had gifted Harry and Markle the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex after their marriage in 2018. Despite stepping down from their royal duties in 2020, the couple has held onto the honor, as reported by Fox News. Coming back to Schumer, this isn't the first time she has poked fun at Markle. When they were both pregnant at the same time, the comedian had humorously referred to her as her nemesis.
As reported by the Daily Mail, she said, "Why is she my nemesis? Because she’s pregnant at the same time as me, and I’m not letting her get away with that. So maybe I'm feeling competitive, like, 'Oh, Meghan looks better than me and she has a tiny small bump and she's wearing high heels and I already look 10 months pregnant and I’ve been wearing flats for the last four years.'"
