Elton John Claims Princess Diana Once Had Two Hollywood Legends Get into an Actual Fistfight Over Her

Princess Diana often dubbed the most beautiful woman in the world, truly deserved her moniker. Her striking appearance—pearly white smile, blue eyes, and elegant style —made men around the globe swoon. Two such men were Hollywood legends, Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere. According to singer Elton John, the hunky actors once got into a fistfight, driven by their jealousy over who accompanied the late Princess.

John, in his memoir, Me, recounted how Stallone was allegedly jealous of Gere getting too close to Diana. As per the Daily Mail, at a party hosted by John for the former Walt Disney chairman, the two actors engaged in a fistfight. John shared, “Richard Gere and Diana seemed very taken with each other…Judging by the kind of looks he kept shooting them, Diana and Richard Gere’s newly blossoming friendship was not going down well with Sylvester Stallone at all.” He also believed that Stallone attended the party with "the intention of picking Diana up” after her separation from Prince Charles.

John recalled finding the actors absent from dinner at his party, only for his husband to later discover them throwing punches outside. John penned, “He came back with both of them, but he was wearing a fairly ashen expression. It transpired that he’d discovered Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere in the corridor, squaring up to each other, apparently about to settle their differences over Diana by having a fistfight.” Not done, Stallone continued hurling abuses at Gere after seeing the smitten pair converse post-dinner. His biography also reveals that the two actors never had a cordial relationship. Allegedly, on the sets of The Lords of Flatbush, Gere dropped a mustard-drip chicken on Stallone’s thigh, which angered him. The incident had also led to a physical altercation between the pair.

This wasn't the only time Princess Diana cozied up to a Hollywood icon and grabbed headlines. According to the Daily Express, Prince Charles was reportedly 'frustrated' when Diana agreed to dance with John Travolta. The then 24-year-old Princess danced with the handsome actor during her iconic White House visit in 1985. On the Royally Obsessed podcast, commentator Rachel Bowie recalled, “He was very frustrated the only thing the media cared about was Diana and John Travolta.”

Diana was no stranger to Charles' jealousy and anger over her receiving the most media attention. In a heartbreaking incident, in 1985, she surprised Charles at a ballet gala for his 37th birthday. She beautifully performed a rendition of Uptown Girl by Billie Joel with professional dancer Wayne Sleep. As per Vanity Fair, author Tina Brown spilled, “His disappointing response, when it leaked, was interpreted as frigid disapproval of Diana's lapse in royal etiquette.” The pair ultimately divorced acrimoniously in 1996 due to Charles' affair with old flame Camilla Parker Bowles.
